you may want to visit the APC airline profile pages and review the payscales.

If the union only yeilds one thing it must deal with one word:

"SCOPE"

No planes flown by any other pilots but JetBlue pilots. I don't care if it's a BE1900 or a A380.

(the XJT thing afew years ago doesn't count, it was short term and paid for by embraer.)

Of course the pay at the regionals is low. I assumed everyone would know I'm talking about Major rates for medium sized equipment.

4th year pay at:

AirTran: $66
Allegiant:$57
Aloha: $71
Frontier: $77
Midwest: $68
Southwest: $108!
Spirit: $63.5 avg.
ScumCountry: $59
USA3000: $68
Virgin Amr.:$64

We'll boot SWA because well they are very well compensated for and average of $65.94/hr. Jet blue pay is $58/hr on the 190 vs. $75 on the the bus. I may be mildly irritated if someone junior to me was on the bus and I was not allowed to bid to it for $17K a year!

That's $10 less than I was making as a E145 capt last year. I think the trick in life is to improve your earning power am I wrong?

I have heard lots of talk about getting better benefits which I believe we can get, but then I will be paying 2% to the union so it may be a wash. I believe those of you that think we will get pay raises with a union are mistaken, I don't think we can negotiate higher pay and better benefits, unless Jetblue starts posting some serious profits. I came from Mesa and seen first hand what it was like to work for a A-hole and it does not matter if you have a union or not if they want to treat you like crap, they will regardless of your contract (ask United guys). The best thing for a pilot group is having a good working relationship with management, my only hope is if the union does get voted in our relationship with management is a good one. I have read the PCRB many times over and I know we are not the best paid in the industry, but you couldn't have paid me twice as much to stay at Mesa (pay isn't everything).
Mike, if you were an FO at Mesa, you're probably loving life. If you were a Captain, even as bad as Mesa is, it will take you a long time to earn what you earned before. Other regional guys had it better than the Mesa guys.....surprize surprize.

Accepting something a little better than Mesa is hardly raising the bar!

I've never heard a pilot, at any carrier, say they want a hostile union and an industry leading, airline busting contract. I certainly wouldn't want that.

There are problems right now. Looking at this from all angles, some see a union as a solution while others do not.

Without a union, what next?

There's a lot of E190 3rd year FO's who have junior FO's making more money in the A320. The 190 FO's will eventually get to upgrade on the A320 before the junior guys but for now................Ouch!

I'm quite biased against national unions, but with that in mind the only guarantee a union will give you at JetBlue is a 2% pay cut to begin with.

By the way...

The one that's head and shoulders higher than the rest is led by the in house union APA. What did ALPA's protection and payment offer United post-9/11? UsAir? Aloha? etc etc.

Small price to pay Vs. hoping for a handout that may or may not come.
