That is the way it was explained to me, as well as the way I understood it applying to your category. The category you currently sit in MD bid into every available base, I would think that applied to 767 and 7ER categories as the same, but I don't know for sure. You would basically need to bid the the 767 category in every available base.

I'm not sure if that would apply to the 7ER also, I would probably call DAL ALPA in your case, they were very informative and cleared up a lot of confusion for me.

Thanks Deadhead, I'll do that. Good luck to you on the 15th.

Haven't called Dalpa yet, but here's the text from the contract-

'Such pay protection will be for the difference in the composite hourly pay rate applicable to the position from which he was displaced and the highest paying position his seniority allows him to hold. This provision will no longer be applicable when a pilot’s seniority allows him to hold a position of equal or greater pay compared to the position from which he was displaced.'

Doesn't say what he bid, but what he was able to hold. Anyone?

Hey, do I understand this right: Since the AE closes on the 15th, the first date someone can be displaced or hit the school house is 30 days later so February 15th. Is that right?

PWA: Section 22, 10. A pilot will receive at least 30 days advance notice from the Company of the conversion date of his displacement.
11. The Company will not rescind a displacement within the 30 days before its conversion date without the consent of the pilot.

I spoke with Crew resources on Fri and was told that the February schedules and conversion memos were already done, so more likely you would be not go to school until March at the earliest. YMMV

So you don't care about the bottom lines because you can use Mil leave for time at home. Using Mil leave for time at home is abusing a privilege. Using Mil leave to work the system and circumvent seniority is not what it was meant for.

If, as a junior FO, does it make sense to keep an AE bid in along with your MD bid?

Being a junior NYC7ERB, I am almost 100% sure I will be getting the big MD, but I was just wondering if you experienced AE bidders thought it made sense to keep an AE, as well as a MD bid in.

In a nutshell, do you think keeping the AE bid helps you get closer to the seat you want as opposed to keeping only your MD bid in.

I am not overly concerned with the 2-year seat lock, because I'm looking to stay in NYC. Also if I understand it correctly, that 2-year seat lock unfreezes or disappears if the company moves that aircraft category to another base.

DH, even though you think you're in the "enviable" position to get the big MD, at least you're more than likely to be pay protected on the ER payscale, as the NYC7er is probably the most junior base of the 7er category system wide. If you think the NYC7er is not what you sign up for, then use the AE option, bear the 2year seatlock. If you're content on your current QOL and can accept the risk of the near future of the basing of NYC7er, then just leave the AE blank, or just put your current position in choice #1.

So make good use of this unfortunate situation, look at the big picture when the "real" aircraft movement begins later this year with the infusion of the NWA side of things, be grateful you didn't get seatlocked into something you weren't quite sure at that time.

I think lots of us forget the fact that this displacement is only the warmup lap in a series of marathons. Some of us will lose QOL, and some will get bumped out of base, c'est la vie. Keep your perspective, look at the long term prospect, discuss it with your loved one, and go to bed happy. I've found my peace...
