What are your displacement preferences?

Just make sure i got it right. Let's say your current seat is NYC7ERB, and you'd like to take the pay protection, you have to put in ATL7ERB, CVG7ERB, LAX7ERB, correct? And after exhausting every possibility in securing your current seat in any base with 7ERB, then your MD choice will be honored with the 7ERB payscale.
EX: #1 NYC7ERB, #2 ATL7ERB, #3 CVG7ERB, #4 LAX7ERB, #5 NYC73NB (Pay-protected for 7ERB, even though you'll be MD to 73NB.
Same scenario as above, but this time you'll be able to hold ATLM88B: #4 is ATLM88B, #5 is LAX7ERB, and you're MD to ATLM88B. This case, there won't be any pay protection. Correct?
Thanks for the further clarification!

I don't live up there but know lots of guys do and make it work. You're only responsible to make the short call to LAX and that should be fairly easy.

Abusing a privilege...hmmmm.
I owe 8 days of mil duty a month. I owe 18 days of airline reserve duty a month...18 days + 8 days=26 days a month. Add in any times I have to commute in the night before (often). Yeah man, you're right, I'm just gaming the system. I get to see my kids so much that it's unfair.
Let's see what I did today while circumventing the system for my personal gain...
This morning I sat through a mishap brief. I watched the cockpit tapes of a bro who crashed and died. I listened to his last words and watched a re-creation of what he must have seen. That was the 6th military crash in the past ONE YEAR involving dudes I knew, including the death of one of my very good friends. (I find that it just gets easier each time to explain to my wife that it can't happen to me, don't you?) Then this afternoon I sat through several hours of training on what to do in case I'm ever shot down and captured....you know, the fun stuff. It was routine info, really. You probably got something similar in indoc as a new hire. Then I took part in two lengthy tactics discussions where we tried to determine the best way to kill a lot of people in a short period of time. All in all, I put in 12 1/2 hours at the squadron and did not fly. I left home before my kids were up and got home as they were going to bed.
Yep, you're right. It was truly unfair of me to take mil leave today. I just abused the system so that I could have a good time and spend extra time at home. But I'm all about the good deals. I guess I'm just selfish like that.

I know some are sitting shortcall in LAS, and will make it faster than the folks driving in due to the traffic. Are you thinking about bidding LAX ER? I'm playing with the same thought but hate the thought of moving west again.. With 85+ behind us in NYC though, do you really think we will be displaced? I am betting the ATL guys will rather stay "home" and fly the M88 than commute to the NYC ER, or am I way off in my thinking here? Regardless, interesting times ahead..

I'm on the 88 now in ATL and live here, holding a junior line. I'm thinking about coming to NYCER and give it a try. I would have 115 behind me now, but I'm sure that will change for the worse, but should still hold a line. Alot of my class mates are on the 757 ATL and ER ATL, it sounds like all of them are trying to come to NYCER. Good luck to you and your choices.
I was afraid of that.. Welcome up north anyway, as long as you can manage your sleep/commute there is no better place. By the sound of it you are two classes ahead of me and even if your entire class is comming up here we will still hold a line, although not as good as now. On the other hand, summer is approaching with more flying so I bet the bottom line will be very lucrative for all of us.

I'm not sure what's going to happen but as of this morning there are 160 guys senior to me with a preference for my seat. For 71 it is their first choice. Now, how many have qualifiers on there we don't have any way to know. As FlyinPiker said there is a reason the company had to put new hires into the ER so hopefully I'll be able to stay where I am, but I'm not counting on it. Hope for the best but plan for the worst

I'm not sure yet what my final bid is going to be. We sold our house in California and moved east less than a year ago. That house is now selling for about $100,000 less than what we got for it. We're renting now and watching what home prices are doing and considering all options. I hear you can get a real deal in Detroit. Maybe we'll sit tight until SOC
