First off ALPA is worthless! That's why we got rid of them!!!!! Second and most importantly, you guys are missing a big factor here, ALPA is no longer ALPA(Air Line Pilots Assoc). It's now RALPA....the Regional Air Line Pilots Assoc...The pilots of the regional/national/commuter,etc now out number the pilots of the legacy/majors in the ranks of ALPA! Why would they want to be on the bottom end of a national seniority list and have to flow through and up a mainline list? I think it would be more to their liking to make a new ALPA merger policy that all pliots at any mainline carrier get stapled to the bottom of the list of the express carriers! They now hold the trump card and can impose this type of policy. Be afraid be very afraid!! Dump ALPA now!!!

One point (of many) everyone seems to miss when this topic comes up is that every other profession that has salary "portability" does not have a seniority system.

For example, lawyers are not made partner based on seniority.

Our industry is different.

I thought you got rid of them because you did not like the arbitrator's decision about seniority integration. A national seniority list would have avoided the cannibalism some USAirways pilots are now engaged in.

Nonsense. If your statement were true, then regional pilots would be able to "flow up" to mainline partner carriers. The only flow that has ever existed was a "flow back" when major carriers had to reduce staffing. Mainline pilots have successfully prevented "flow up" agreements benefiting union regional pilots.

OK, flame away!
First of all, it would be a waste of perfectly good napalm to "flame" this thread.

Secondly, ALPA, in reality, has become "YOYO" as one astute reader posted on another thread. That accurately means "You're On Your Own". The organization has nothing to do with pay in today's environment, does not have the power to get anything worthwhile accomplished on a national level and in my view, is a waste of dues money.

To your point, a national seniority list will not work in this environment. Period. Maybe, just maybe, 10 years ago if everyone had the guts to take a stand and put their jobs on the line......"maybe", but a weak chance at best.

A lot of pilot groups have come up with a slant on the concept but there isn't a way it will work.

Just my two cents devalued to $.0000102391098 on today's market close.

G'day Mates

"I thought you got rid of them because you did not like the arbitrator's decision about seniority integration. We did not get rid of ALPA because of the arbiters ruling and it's not about screwing the west pilots...it was just the final straw and we weren't gonna be screwed by Dictator Prator and ALPA anymore. You guys still in ALPA DO need to understand that the folks flying the small planes DO out number the mainline pilots. Last time I looked the majority does rule.

You want portability start with increasing pay across the board on the first 5 years of pay everywhere. Not gonna happen though senior boys are in charge and why should they care.

I doubt that regional pilots will gain any kind of exclusive control of ALPA as long as dues are based on earnings. Regional pilots may outnumber mainliners, but they earn less and pay lower dues.

You say you got rid of ALPA to avoid being screwed, not to screw the west pilots. It's all in whose ox gets gored. How many west pilots agree with USAPA? How come people always argue vehemently that the most "fair" seniority system just happens to be the one the puts them highest on the list?

Who's fault is that? Here's a news flash for you, it's you and your buddy's at the majors. You are the fools who gave up scope and have helped destroy this industry. You're the reason that there are more pilots at the regionals and LCC's than the majors. It's time to look in the mirror...

APLA is worthless and I am ashamed I was ever part of such terrible union. Prater and all the other higher ups are no different than the upper management in airlines. All they care about is their huge paycheck and making it even bigger and could care less about anyone of us pilots. Prater is all talk and no game, and that will not change. Maybe we should cut his pay and see how he likes it.
