Teamsters, etc.
No dog in this fight, but that made me laugh. ALPA, the insurance bennies and merger experience makes them worth it. Not to mention they've negotiated a few pilot contracts. I'm no ALPA cheerleader but c'mon. Really? You could go the in-house route but by the time your guys figure that out they might be stapled to someone else's list. You can always vote them out if you're not satisfied. That's what we did at Purple and then we took them back after our in-house debacle. Good luck nonetheless.

Who the deuce is Purple? I'm guessing it's either MAG of FDX. Either way, not a huge ALPA National fan, but it is what is when it's needed. Is it needed?

Now I’ll play the grown-up card and admit, I got heated because of past experiences and clearly it got out of control, BUT let me make this clear (since I apparently didn’t): Are other options completely out of question? Another in-house attempt, Teamsters, etc. Why just ALPA? That is all. Civil replies please.
Dear Capt:

I have been ALPA at 2 previous carriers and have 15 years of dues receipts to prove it. I was never a big fan of ALPA and I never benefitted in any way from being in ALPA. When I started at JetBlue I kept an open mind and hoped the "Direct Relationship" would be for me all they advertised it would be while I was getting juiced up at OSC. I'm here to tell you it's not, ALPA in this case is needed. The other options (Teamsters, in-house, etc..) are not viable in this situation. So, my advice is get your card in and do it soon. There is nothing in your PEA to protect you if American buys JB, the best you could end up with is a pink slip and a check for one year salary. GET YOUR CARD IN!!

Whatif!

Please guys, keep this clean. I know lots of people have different views/feelings about ALPA/Unions, & we encourage discussion & debate. But please, keep it clean & leave out personal attacks. It's an emotional topic, but it doesn't need to involve mud slinging.

Thanks

Here's your civil reply. I'm not trying to tear you down. I understand being at OSC is a great experience for the most part. They really are great at getting you through the process and making it a stress-free event for new-hires, and that's really awesome.

It got a few of us heated because you are taking your experience as a new-hire and telling us how it is here without having dealt with the issues that have brought us to this point. It takes a certain amount of chutzpah to tell guys that have fought with scheduling (excuse me, Crew Services) or benefits or other departments and have watched the culture deteriorate how great it is here. It doesn't mean you are an industry rookie, but you ARE a JetBlue rookie. Not a slam, just fact. Flying the line is an entirely different experience than being down at OSC. Not usually bad, just different. Also just a fact.

I don't think anyone got hired here hoping to bring ALPA on property. We've tried the direct relationship and the inhouse road: the company fought us tooth-and-nail, and the volunteers that put their heart and souls into JBPA even tried to work with the Student Council (PVC) after the election, only to be villified by management. Don't get me started on the Teamsters... So, ALPA it is.

Seriously? You expect ALPA to fight? I would say you're either dilusional or misinformed, I think (hope) it's the latter...

one year from now we will still have the same issues , still lacking OJI ,LOL,and proper medical and prescription, lack of scope and scheduling rules etc etc etc, and there will still be morons out there drinking Kool-aid thinking everything is fine becasue we are better off than at mesa......
please AA buy this place a fire us all... enough with dragging everyone down.
Yes, by all means hope for getting bought by AA. Then all the TWA guys that got furloughed at AA can get rat f**ed again by APA.

It's an old thread. And, not much has changed since it was started!
