Jetblue pilots stay non-union
#161
I come here sporadically so I know this was a couple weeks back, but as a current bus guy that lived through the UAL decade of watching furloughs I want to comment.
You are wrong. Sometimes it is alpa that furloughs. It was alpa and paul whitford, with chuck pierce at his side, that caused over 1000 additional furloughs by negotiating super high hour lines and S&#T work rules to save his unsaveable A-fund. He then signed away big RJs with one pen stroke. Then alpa shoved age 65 up our a$$, against the wide majority of alpa pilots, without the courtasy of a reach around. Adding 5ish years to current furloughs without so much as a thought because that was prater's agenda item. Current furloughs would be largely over were it not for alpa, thus making them alpa furloughs. Yea, was it the company that sent out the furlough notices? Yes. Are a large number the a result of alpa actions. YES! Thus making them all alpa's.
Do I think JB and everyone else should be unionized. HELL YES.....but as much good as alpa has done in the past, they have done more harm this decade. The reason alpa continues to get away with this sh%t is people that don't put the proper blame at their feet. It is management's job to f&$k me over for an extra nickle. It is alpa's job to protect my career. Score the win for management last decade. Hopefully we can pull our alpa head out of our a$$ and make this decade better for the profession.

But the facts that you are leaving our are:
1. Your MEC did this. Not ALPA. ALPA national supports the MEC. Your MEC sold these pilots down the river to save thier retirement.
2. Your pilot group voted to accept this contract. Thus your pilots screwed the pilots that where furloughed, not ALPA.
3. Age 65 was done based on a survey of all ALPA pilots. The majority of all ALPA pilots want this. Again, blame the pilots, not ALPA for doing what their members wanted. (personally I think age 65 was wrong, but I had not vote here at JB).
Again, what everyone that is ANTI ALPA talks about is how "they where screwed by ALPA. Again, they were screwed by their airline and their local MEC and pilot group (ref above), not by ALPA. Sometimes democracy sucks, especially when the majoirty screws the minority.
Just my opinion.......

ALPA didn't increase the retirement age to 65, the Feds did. It was going to happen no matter what ALPA, APA, SWAPA or any poll of pilots said.
I agree with you that it was wrong, but even an SOS would not have stopped it.

Going to ALPA is a decision that all the jetBlue pilots will have to make on their own. Just want to correct the facts on this one issue.

Please do not state what you don't know. If alpa had fought it we don't know what may have happened/changed because we did not try. It really bothers me when people know something would, or would not, have happened when we never tried. It's a cowardly way of saying I did not want to fight.

....and you think you can't be stapled as an ALPA carrier?
Check with the TWA folks who got the royal shaft by "THE" pilot's union, ALPA. And, it was not because they were in BK either. ALPA literally sold them out! jetBlue pilots made the absolute correct decision. Good for you. It appears that you have the ability to think for yourselves. I salute you!

And jetBlue, Virgin and Allegiant pilots can't figure out why they get accused of degrading the profession.
