The biggest problem with an early out for some of the DAL-N guys are the ones who have a hefty amount of so-called "excess funds" in their pension. You have to stay to 60 to get the lump sum option. Probably not a problem for the 60+ guys although the amount in the excess fund does decrease every month you work past 60.

A number of the pre 60 guys I have flown with, said they will leave if the buyout covers the excess funds loss.

Personally, I would think they would want to hold us off till after SOC and train us once. I know for myself I will get dumped to the DC9 and then bid LA on the next APA. They should save themselves the hassle of 300 double trainings. Probably not actually 300 but a lot.
300 would just be the -200 guys...... If you include all of the displaced people as a result of where the -200 guys go then you are talking a lot more than 300. This is going to cause a ton of movement pre and post SOC if they go with the DAL-n APA system. Either way it sucks for everyone.

Upon reading the news reports that are out it appears the -200's are flying until Dec. 31st 2009. If this is the case some or all of the displaced pilots would train after that date putting them on the DAL-s AE system..... Bidding just got tougher for all.

I know I would but I am pretty sure the IRS limitations prevent the company from paying that out prior to age 60. Maybe somebody knows better

I could be wrong, but they could guarantee to pay it out upon reaching 60.

If I read TWG 09-04 correctly, there could be AE with Displacements between August and SOC, but only to the respective fleets.

Impact of Single Operating Certificate (SOC)

In accordance with
Section 22 I. 7. of the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA), Delta North pilots will not be eligible for an AE, VD or MD to categories operating Delta South aircraft until after SOC. The converse is also true; Delta South pilots will not be eligible for an AE, VD or MD to categories operating Delta North aircraft until after SOC. As a result, awards or assignments to any vacancies or surpluses posted prior to SOC will be restricted to pilots within their respective pre-merger fleets. The current target for SOC is the end of 2009. In review, there will not be any APAs posted for Delta North pilots after August 2009 and any AE’s posted between August 2009 and SOC will be restricted to the respective pre-merger fleets.

The First Combined AE
Assuming that SOC is the end of 2009, both Delta North pilots and Delta South pilots will be able to bid in the Delta AE system for a combined AE beginning in January, 2010. Should SOC be delayed significantly beyond the end of 2009, separate AEs will be issued for the Delta North and Delta South pilot groups until SOC.

Note: Unlike the APA process, there is no set timeframe required for the posting of a vacancy or surplus notice in the Delta system. It is based solely on the staffing requirements of the airline. Generally, you can expect to see 3 to 4 postings a year.

Yep. I am guessing that you will see them project training for these 742 pilots to start in Jan. Just a guess.

Yes you did. I stated Delta's pilots were better off (at least status quo) in a stand alone airline and no one wanted to hear that either.

With most everyone getting out of cargo, maybe FedEx is the place to be when things turn around. ACL, what's the wifey think of Memphis?
