I think the pilot group would love them. The company not so much!
They have a certain minimum size they feel a category has to attain to make it cost effective from a standpoint of scheduling and reserves. The flight attendants have mini bases but only flight attendants who have had perfect attendance can bid them and they have to agree to find their own replacement if they are sick. I don't think the pilots are going to go for that.

Ferd,

Just another North pilot, but if I am not mistaken, the long layover is at "The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers". At least it was when my wife and I stayed there a couple of months ago...

The long layover is the Park Plaza Hotel.

The short layover is the Wyndam Chelsea.

Unfortunately, its a LONGER drive to the short layover hotel. And if you are delayed getting in for the evening, it makes for a very very short layover.

Park Plaza is a great spot. Took the wife to BOS for a weekend a while back and stayed there. You can open your window and spit on Boston Common, so the location is fantastic, and the hotel has that "grand old hotel" look and feel (and a passable Irish pub right around the corner...)

The Park Plaza is our long layover hotel and it's great. Mcormick & Schmicks is connected to the hotel and has some excellent late night happy hour munchie things. Across the street is the original Legal Seafoods with some great grub as well. You can walk to most of Boston's great historical sites. If you're DAL it often depends upon where you are based and what you fly. We had some nice layovers from LAX for awhile, but those are gone. The ATL and CVG guys snagged them.

They are known for their seafood but I tried the meatloaf and it was amazing. I figured if a fish house has the balls to put meatloaf on the menu it has to be good and I was right. It may seem like an odd thing to order but you wont be let down, a must try.

This move actually makes sense so it probably won't happen - after all we can just throw more RJ's into both bases.

It's funny because the E175 "RJ" could also do both coasts from SLC.

actually, it can't.

when S5 did CLE-SLC, they could just barely make it in the 170 with required reserves. i've been told by more than a couple captains & check airmen that flew those legs that there were too many diversions due to guys hitting higher than forecast winds and not being able to make it. The 175 is the same plane, just longer and a higher ZFW.

Huh? The 90 can't make the east coast from SLC, but an 88 can do ATL-LAX and a CR9 can do SLC-YYZ-SLC?
