Gen dec is the General Declaration. Has the info about the flight, like passenger count, crew count, etc and requires signatures.

Crew dec is the crew decleration that each crew member has to show to customs along with your passport when reentering the country. Usually the FA's have a big packet of customs and immigration forms for both the pax and crew. They usually just call you up and ask if want them so you can fill it out.

Unless you have a bunch of purchased items to delcare, it takes about 30 seconds to fill it out. More than once I've done it waiting in line at customs.

Why don't we wait until United finishes the internal audit and then we won't know any more than we know now.
The crew meal thing was mine. I even put a on it. So, for the record, it was a joke, not jumping to conclusions @ all.

The CA diverts to MIA, and the pilot in the right seat didn't even know "until the last minute"? I guess it depends how one interprets 'the last minute' - me, this seems highly implausible, and so does the entire story.

Then - and with understanding that I know nothing of P121 ops - this would appear on the surface IMO not to fall into the safety related incident that would require the flight to be diverted. This problem - if as reported is accurate - could have been delt with at the destination or even between flights it seems. I hope that there is a "rest of the story" to come.

Believe me, there will NOT be anything published in regards to this issue for a lot of reasons. This issue will be investigated by United and appropriate internal issues will be addressed. Since there wasn't an FAR violation and the diversion was apparently handled "normally" in accordance with ATC procedures, you're at the end of the line as far as information on this diversion is concerned.

Have a wonderful day !!

Yeah - I wasn't actually asking if there would something published when I said that - I was saying that I would hope there was a better reason to divert the flight than having a customs form slipped under the door and the argument that seems to have ensued. Again...I don't have experience with this type of flying but I can't imagine that a conflict such as this rises to the level of a reason to divert a flight. Maybe we'll get some more insider info

I am betting the truth lies somewhere in the middle... nonetheless reason to divert... NO.

Hope the skipper gets a long long long leave of absence... at least until his 65th birthday.

Good to see a Captain have the stones to stand up and do the right thing. Captains, unfortunately have to set the example and who knows, this guy may be paving the way for others who may think twice before being disrespectful. Now I dont know the whole story, but the Captain is the final say and if the FA wasn't following orders then he has every right to divert. You might not like it or even agree with it, but that's his decision to make. The Captain is legally bound to adhere to the safety of flight and there is no disputing that. Maybe the situation was getting out of hand and then escalates? Who is in trouble then? Captain.

the email sounds very slanted, it is obvious that it is hearsay and some of it has been twisted. there are 2 sides, and from what i know of flight attendants in general and my fellow airline pilots, i find it impossible to make any judgment on that capt.
