Midwest Airlines to ground 717s in November

I'm not defeated in my outlook at all. I realize that it is our jobs to fight for the contract and pay we deserve and I do believe we can make it better. But everything I said is fact. Its the crappy reality of the regional industry. If you price yourself out of the market mainline will either find someone else thats waiting in the wings (happened to Comair and Xjt) to do it for $2 bucks cheaper and you get half your pilot group sent to the street or your own managment will start an alter ego (TSA/GoJets situation) and get a bunch of SJS grads to come in and undermind your admirable fight for higher wages. I'm just stating facts here and by no means am I throwing in the towel so to speak. But you have to admit its a vicious cycle in this industry and we as regional pilots really have no leverage, especially under the RLA. Construction workers walk off the job all the time. Why can't we? I have buddys that are union electricians and if there is someone on a job site that isn't union (being paid below industry standard) they will all walk off. Thats the way it should be. Not this mickey mouse BS where we fight for better parts of a decade to get a $3 raise.

If Republic pilots want any chance of redemption for their transgression against Midwest pilots, they should integrate the Midwest pilot seniority list into their own to allow Midwest pilots to get their jobs back. After that, they should demand proper wages for the aircraft they are flying.
Unfortunately, knowing the mentality of the majority of Republic pilots, they will be more concerned with their own selfish desires and not give 2 cents about the Midwest pilots. I sure hope they prove me wrong.

Yep, and I have talked to them a lot lately. They seem for the most part to be very happy at our demise and can't wait for us to go away. One of them was telling me how he couldn't wait to fly the Airbus. He had to be all of 26 and been with Republic two years. Down right disgusting.

It is so sad that the profession has come to this. If the FAA would pass ATP mins requirements for 121 pilots, we might weed out alot of these young punks fresh out of flight school that will do your job for a penny. Also, a college degree requirement could help weed out a little more.

I'm not against anyone making a living flying. I am just against them taking away my living that I have been doing since most of them were in grade school. They say it isn't their fault but they sure don't seem to voice any concern about those who are losing their jobs.

Way to avoid the issue. The fact of the matter is, you have constantly blamed the RAH pilots for the destruction and dismantling of your "great" airline. But you will not look at the facts of the matter and just admit that your airline was toast before RAH showed up. You took a stand on "principal" and told MEH to shove it when they came to you with a pay scale that you didnt deem exceptable, not to mention the fact that EVERY other MEH employee took STEEP pay cuts, hardcore pay cuts 40% or more, to help MEH make ends meet. You took a gamble and lost. And then you sit here with this air of entitlement, expecting RAH pilots to let you come in and step all over them? And you act appalled that nobody cares about you? By God you're a cancer to any employee group.
