Let the FA's handle it? Are you serious? FA's have the same training as some 16 year old lifeguard at your local swimming pool. If I saw the taxiway was clear, and the runway I was supposed to land on wasn't, I'd make the same decision every day of the week. And you know what, another reg I'm going to disregard is going 250 below 10k.
Jeopardizing the safety of 200 lives for the sake of one and worse off, one's ego will not impress the C/P or the VP/Dir of Ops.
As one poster stated before... people die every day. Some have the misfortune of passing away on airplanes.
I have to disagree with your view of cabin crew training. Whilst flying on a trip before the Defibs... a passenger went into cardiac arrest. Cabin crew rallied and brought the pax back with CPR. Passenger survived, and a few months later took the cabin crew for dinner.
On another flight a passenger slipped and cut their head on the base of the lavatory. Again, the cabin crew rallied, and stopped the bleeding and took excellent care of the person until turned over to the medics.
I know... I can go on, and on... but after 30 plus years, I've witnessed a lot of miracles, and yes some tragedies too.
Like with front end crewmembers, you'll find cabin crewmembers who are excellent, and lets say... less than excellent.

Holy crap people. Just shut the hell up. Jesus Christ. Was he over 60? Was he over 61? How about 62? Maybe 63? Did he work for a regional previously? What if he was a regional pilot is DISGUISE?! Did he fly all night? Maybe a dead zombie was the medical emergency and he was trying to get into the cockpit! Just stop. Simply wait for the facts to come out and stop speculating. It's really unbelievable. All of this garbage coming from people that claim to be professionals...*

Serious question though: Does anyone know if this was a ATL based crew? You would think a crew knows it's home base.

I will say this again. Let the facts come out. There is a ton to this and you all are looking like total idiots.

My fiance' is a FA, and I have a lot of friends who are FA's, both at regionals and majors. I have heard the training they go through, I have heard the great jobs some have done in emergencies, I have heard how they acted in high stress situations. They are far more capable to help someone with a medical problem than you are.
We drive planes, really, it ain't much more than that. Your job is to drive that plane safely, and deliver passengers to their destination. I'll wait for the full report on this incident, but if they purposely landed on a taxiway, then they should be fired, or at least re-trained. Remember, a taxi clearance will include hold short instructions at a rwy or taxiway that another aircraft is on. If someone was given a clearance to taxi onto that taxiway, without holding instructions (because no planes were on it), and he taxied onto it at the last second, hundreds of lives would have been lost. On approach at 140 kts, in the dark, it is sometimes hard to see a planes lights on a taxiway, especially if they are taxing the same direction you are flying.

I'm just trying to get over the trauma of finding out that my airline's pilots are not the best in the world. Management even told us we were! Now that Delta has been crowned I'm not sure what to do with my "best pilots in the world" shirts, mugs, and hats.

Did you know that landing on other than the intended runways is considered by the FAA as a CFIT
