SWA Poolies

This is an unprecedented time at SWA of no growth or retirements. I think they are making the rules up as they go, but from what I understand, there isn't an expiration from the pool. I heard they were calling the poolies back to the HQ for some kind of update of status. Everything I've heard has been second hand since the company doesn't usually keep the pilots updated on the poolies, so someone else may have better information. I don't think it was anything close to a reinterview, but rather an update to make sure no career changing events had happened since the interview (ie DUI, FAA action, etc). We are still overstaffed by quite a few pilots, but as the RNP training winds down I think any "growth" SWA sees this year would be absorbed by the current excess. I wouldn't rule out a couple of classes if things really turn around.

This is pretty accurate, except when reading this it sounded like some have been called in for the check-in. To my knowledge that hasn't happened yet. Supposedly they are getting ready to send another update to poolies soon, I got that direct from HR. We're officially 18 months from the last interviews, which is a milestone - at that point the whole "check-in" thing is req'd. So with this date and HR's awareness of rumors going around that there are a couple classes spinning up (denied), I personally expect to hear something in the next month.

Here's what the PD told me post-interview: calls for class go out based on DOI with the date of type rating used if the DOI is the same. From what I was told by the PD when I entered the pool in late summer 08, there were a few 2007 interviewees that had deferred classes based on military commitments. Hopefully that helps.

He deferred a class do to a commitment and then things turned bad with hiring so he's just waiting on things to pick up. The reason I know this is because he's a friend of mine. Good luck to all the poolies; It WILL be worth the wait.

Pay an F.O. a real wage and they wont have to pick up. By the way, living in a free country allows one to pick up extra work, especially if they have a family member that has a chronic disease which isnt covered by insurance. Sure your not in that boat so its easy to judge.
