OK, lets thread shift back to Delta New Hires/Class Dates/Cleared to Train.

Got the call from BB today! I will be joining all of you on the 20th of September in ATL. I'm going to be writing my 2 week notice tomorrow and I can't wait. If your wondering I interviewed mid July. Questions for the new hires in class now (or anyone in the know):

What is the daily schedule like during indoc?

Does the company pay for a hotel during indoc? (If not what are some good options for cheap places to stay that don't require a car?)

Are there some items you wish you would have brought from home that would have helped with any aspect of initial training?

Thanks again for all the info APC
Pilot Error ---soon to be one with the widget

First of all.......CONGRATS!!!!!! :)

I know from previous discussions you are provided a hotel for indoc only. Once you hit sim training you're on your own for lodging.

Hopefully some of the guys in class now can answer the other stuff. I can't think of anything else you would want to bring, as you're taken care of nicely during indoc.

One suggestion, make sure you keep your nose clean during your last 2 weeks of employment. Keep being the professional you have been, no banging out sick for your last 2 weeks. DAL will still be watching, & can pull attendance records for the last weeks of your old job. I'm not implying that you would do this, just passing along some friendly info.

Congrats, and looking forward to seeking you at Delta. :D

IMHO- A word to the wise for our new hires, you'll hold a line a lot earlier in the dog than the 320. The 320 is newer, has a lower work load, arguably easier to fly, much more comfortable, much easier on the eye, etc. After an AE or two, the sifting process will have the junior guys forced down to the dog, that is, if we don't hire more in 2011. If you want a line, avoid the shiny jet syndrome and head for the old metal.

A flight kit full of glycol in the winter.

Fifi can't offer that !!

True dat...but before you fly the DC-9-88 fly thre DC-9-50. All the same 'benefits' of the -88 listed above plus not automatic level off from climb or descents....keep them ASAPS handy:D

Where are you getting that information? I was told by a check airmen and a CP that more new hires were going to the 320 than the 9. Although MEM will see an increase in -9 but not 320.....

Could it be that you are just trying to get people beneath you? :D let 'em go to the 320! I want people below me....

He means the MD88/90 in MSP/NYC. Newhires will be heading to the 320 regardless.

Regardless of where you go........

CONGRATS, and welcome aboard to the newhires. If things go as we all hope, you will have the opportunity to change equipment and base within the first few years, and your seniority will improve quickly.

Congrats again, happy to have you.

Exactly along the lines of Professional Standards committee. If they break rules - the company/FAA will get them.

Do something about a problem - that's the Delta way :)

Ummm, I was talking about the ability to hold a line soonest, not whether or not new hires could be assigned the 320 or the diesel. Of course they can and are getting both. When we stopped hiring a few years back, there were a lot of junior pilots on widebodies and 73Ns who, after a few AEs, sifted down to the lower paying aircraft. If we don't hire again in 2011, that will most likely happen again. As for trying to get them beneath me, those slots will be filled by someone junior to me regardless, thank God.;) Commuting to reserve stinks!

As I remember, the schedule for indoc is somewhat fluid. We got a schedule at the beginning of the week, but some of it didn't pan out because of executive availability. They adjusted and rescheduled as needed.

Class generally ran from 8 until 5ish, with a break for lunch - sometimes catered, sometimes on your own. First week was a lot of meet the bosses and departments (Chief pilots/Scheduling/HR benefits, crew resources, etc.) & get your books, with a little bit of indoc instruction, and few pep talks thrown in. Second week was more instruction than the first, but there was still some meeting of higher ups and other folks, pep talks, and of course, the pool (ditching training.) Had to do a J.S. observation the first weekend, but I don’t know if that’s still going on or not.

This was during the tail end of the last cycle, so I don’t know if things have changed dramatically or not.
