As I understand it:
Even though you are being held back, you are for all intents and purposes here at DAL for bidding, longevity, etc. You have an aircraft assignment, and can bid on the AE here in a few weeks. If awarded something different than what you are assigned, that means if is a new award, and the seat lock applies. That is how I read your status here at DAL. Because of this status, the contract will effect you like you are sitting in class with the others that started that day. Of note, even if awarded another jet, that does not mean you will not go train on your initial assignment. This AE will more than likely have a conversion window a few months past the day you show up. If they cannot contractually get you in to training on the awarded jet from the next AE, you will be doing two training events back to back. Trust me it can happen. Just realize that. |
Delta New Hire competitive stats
Congratulations to all selected and good luck in training. I was wondering if you could share you background and flight time stats. I would like to know if I am competitive in this regard.
1. Age 50 + 2. TT 12,500 FAR 135, 121(major) as well as overseas airline. Currently Capt on B737NG. 3. PIC Jet 3800 B737NG (700/800/900ER) 4. Class I medical with corrective lenses. 5. Master's degree. 6. No incidents/accidents violations. 7. No speeding tickets in 10 years. ( 2 other over 20 years). 8. 1 check-ride/training failure 17 years ago. 9. USAF veteran (non-flying) 10. Former FFDO 11. Interviewed with NWA in 1997 and turned down (Phase I) |
Avien, I think you are quite competitive. Number one does not matter, number 10 no one needs to know, and number 11 will probably not matter unless their policy is that a NWA interview bust is a DAL bust, but I have not heard anything about that.

First post-merger pilot class earns wings August 23, 2010 A new-hire training class of 30 Delta pilots – the first to begin training since the merger – will receive their flight wings during ceremonies Monday night. The initial fleet-common class began last week and will wrap up Friday, followed by four to six weeks of fleet type-specific training in the DC-9, MD-88 and Airbus A320 fleets. “This is an exciting milestone as this is our first class of new hire pilots since the integration of our two airlines,” said Steve Dickson, s.v.p.-Flight Operations, who will present the class members with their wings. In May, Flight Operations announced Delta would hire an additional 305 pilots to meet schedule changes planned for later this year and next summer. Three in the new class were hired from within Delta Flight Operations. One was a supervisor in pilot crew scheduling; another was the DC-9 fleet manager; and the third was the technical manager on the A330. The other class members are about evenly split between military and civilian backgrounds, and one is a former intern at Delta. Eight in the class have a master’s degree, and one has a doctorate. Several have family members who were or are Delta employees. The planned total class size was 58. But 28 pilots from Delta Connection carriers – 20 from Compass and 8 from Mesaba – were held back to support summer operations at those carriers and will begin their classroom instruction in November. Jim Graham, v.p.-Flying Operations and chief pilot, along with several other Flight Ops leaders, will join Steve in presenting the new pilot wings. |

I have heard a bust at NWA is considered a bust at Delta. I know somebody who recieved a letter for an interview and that letter was retracted after it was found out that they did not pass the NWA interview.
