It IS outrageous ACL.. there is NO WAY that you can justify this. UNder his watch the profession has continued to deteriorate, yet his QOL has improved. And you see no disconnect? Really? It is EXACTLY the same argument that is going to (hopefully) sweep the progressives from power in congress in 4 weeks. EXACTLY.

I think it is more than apparent that I want to fix what is wrong with ALPA not whistle past the grave yard.
Sorry.. but...

This isn't Cuba. No power grabs, just elections.

Carl
Come on, Carl... "there will be no power grab"? And we will get a little pixie dust sprinkled on us, and just fly home from these DPA meetings?

These things don't usually spontaneously occur. You've been watching union politics long enough to understand that behind the stated cause, there are actually people, factions driven by the appetite for power. It's a little sad, but there it is: people find it important to be in charge, even of unions.

Please note this is completely different from people that actually are advancing an actual cause, which can happen, albeit far more rarely. When they happens they actually try to rally people around a positive idea.

The sure way to distinguish people that actually want power to effect a change, not simply for the sake of power (or other motives like revenge), actually are promoting a clear agenda. This particular group has only been good for a few vague promises, but the main thrust of their argument is that things have really, really sucked (no kidding), and Prater is a boob (no kidding) so... DPA.

At any rate, I'm quite sure that when you support DPA, you're not supporting a great alternative plan (since I see no plan here), but you're supporting people. Whether you're doing it by accident or on purpose, you're promoting someone's candidacy. When you say there will be "just elections", I suspect you have an idea whose election you mean. Because I sure can't believe you'd be naive enough to be promting the removal of ALPA at DAL, without knowing wh you'd turn the keys over to.

Right now, when I ask, I'm told this group is the same group that tried the 44 recalls. In other words, it's the previous administration, trying to come back. It's the tie-up of the discarded products from the South and the North, driven by bitterness. I don't know if this is true, which is why I find it so important to hear who DPA really is. I find their interest in websites, and ads a little troubling, in light of their opaque approach right from the start. A group that purports to be about communication and transparency... ought to have those attributes.

My fear is that we line pilots will get caugh in the middle. If the people that are obsessed with power would be content to simply be called "Mr. Chairman", and walk around in five-striped uniforms, saluting each other, it would be no problem. Unfortunately, these [****] actually happen to capture real authority to do stuff with our lives. I'm sure it's almost an afterthought for some, but there it is: these guys actually have the power to make our career better, or muck it up some more. Now, you weren't around for LOA 46, but if we have to vote on Product 46 vs. Product 51, product 46 will not pass.

I'm all for trading all this in for a new Product C12. New and improved. For that reason, I'm all for reforms, and not at all for old leaders to come back from the grave, or for power struggles disguised as something else.

There must be a figure that is stated, I would think that the compensation comm has it...what is the total figure? Thanks

Fort Lauderdale Resorts - The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood, Florida

The Allure of Two Experiences

One refreshing destination with two unique experiences. Choose beachfront surf and sand or a more intimate stay surrounded by manicured golf course greens and an indulgent full-service spa. Breathe in the scents of lemongrass ginger with green tea and indulge in the calming effects of the full-service Spa at The Diplomat. Challenge yourself with an early morning tee time on the 18-hole golf course, managed by Troon Golf®. Take a tennis lesson, charter a fishing boat, ride a Jet Ski or just relax in a poolside cabana. Experience all that one of the premier Fort Lauderdale Resorts has to offer.

It's OK for the BOD to meet there. LM said that we were making more today then we did after CH11, and he might just be the next National President.

The National boys, and their staff deserve this.

First let me say that in my opinion ALPA cannot be changed from within. I truly believe that a clean slate is needed. That aside, I am not enamored with DPA's approach. So far they have no stated goals other than getting rid of ALPA. I think the timing is poor and I don't think that they are being very realistic about getting people out to vote since few pilots vote in elections for ALPA reps. In addition there is one little statement on their website that bothers me, perhaps I am being to sensitive but this just seems silly:

"The president will be anelected active Delta captain and the vice president will be an elected active Delta first officer."

Why must the president be a captain, shouldn't we elect the best person for the job regardless of what seat they are in? How is a Captain better suited to be president than an FO? There are plenty of FO's who are more than senior enough to hold Captain but choose to be FO's why does their seat choice matter when it comes to representing the pilots? I think it is just stupid and frankly childish.

Not too impressed, DPA.

Someone smarter than me is going to have to come up with the final figure.

All I know is that a large portion of the rank & file line pilots of ALPA are in a completely different situation than the NATL ALPA leadership. Lots of guys have taken draconian pay cuts, lost pensions, and now have to pay more for worse health insurance. Meanwhile, the Fat Cats at ALPA NATL have monthly "allowances" that surpass the gross monthly pay of some line pilots. New cars, housing, etc. We are bearing the brunt of the pain, while our dues $$$$ provides lavish living for the top dogs. This is out of whack.

In the military, you knew if a PT Instructor was worth a damn if he'd do whatever he asked you to do. IOW, he'd run 5 miles right beside you if he told you to do it, not sit under a shade tree while you busted your butt. He gained respect.

I realize the NATL officers don't have to do the "heavy lifting" that the line pilots do, but at least they could fake it a bit. A huge party at the Diplomat in FLL, while the rest of us are in Best Westerns......come on.

I'll give DPA a try. (I mailed the card in weeks ago).

Superdad-

I think the reason for the CA & FO language is to make sure everyone is equally represented. Of course, it's not written in stone, either. If you like what ALPA gives you, stay with 'em.
