You guys will get use to it. He or she will still be the Capt. You will do as they ask within company procedures or be removed and visit the Chief Pilot. Just sayin'

And what will capt. He/she have given up in return for the windfall?

Hey Whackmaster, I think I fly with a lot more SWA guys than those who you interact with. I'm just saying, the culture will be shot if any 6 year Air Tran Capt gets to keep his seat over a 10 year SWA FO. That's the majority opinion over here. I'm not sure who you are talking to, but they may be delusional.
Pass the popcorn somebody... this ^^^^ is gonna be great!

Hey Gipple
I think you answered your own question in August 2009.
" SWA will target someone for extinction. I am more than willing to forget about all of our in house family squabbles (headsets, discipline etc..) to put on my warrior spirit and go after any other legacy on their turf. MSP, MKE, BOS, LGA, and hopefully soon ATL and CLT. We have been hammered by the other airlines pilots for even broaching the subject of a staple of a nearly liquidated pilot group. Well now boys and girls, which one of you legacy types have the confidence in your management leadership to weather the storm of a SWA onslaught on your biggest hubs? Personally I think that our management has been sandbagging it for the last few years and letting other LCCs chip away at the legacy carriers. They do far more damege to legacy RASM than they do to us. So come now, who wants to be first in line for our cross hairs?" Posted by Gipple in 08/2009

You're probably right. If you go back to look at the "merger era" L&G@D" thread, there were some wild hyperbole about pay raises, better flying, who has more money, bigger airplanes and whatnot, and, really, none of that played into the final equation.
The arbitrators don't deal with "subjective", and they mostly won't deal with emphemeral contracts since that can always change. And they LOVE precedent, because that means zero risk for them.
My bet is close to what Fish said. Since a good portion of the guys hired before 94 are getting close to retirement, I'd bet that after 5 years, the SWA list looks like a relative solution anyway.

Yeah, you obviously do speak with more SWA guys than I do, so you'd obviously have a better reading on the pulse of the pilot group. I will NOT get into SLI expectations, wants, wishes, etc. on this or any other public forum. I'll leave that to my MC. What I will say about your response above is that the scenario described is a VERY real possibility, so prepare for the VERY real possibility that according to you your culture will be shot.
I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that assessment, not because I'm calling you a liar by any means, but simply that I don't think an arbitrator ruling that all AAI cptns keeping their seat will ruin the mighty SWA culture. I guess we'll see what happens. It'd be a shame if anything ruined such a precious culture in this industry.
Let's keep in mind also that this is not a done deal, nor is it even close to being a done deal.

Here's a sample of some of the LUVmail that I received as a PM a few weeks ago:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whackmaster,
Lets hope we get a 15 year fence and you can rot in ATL.
Just Saying.
Nice, huh?

It's funny how you Air Tran guys think you are owed something... Our culture is more than just slinging the gear up and down and making callouts. It may be very lonely in your world if this SLI goes the wrong way.... I'm just sayin...once again... I'll just leave it at that.
