And how does DAL fly those two specific fleets you mention????

Seperate.

I thought the 787 was smaller, lighter, etc. than the 777? About the size of a 767 ER I was told. So to have it pay the same as the 777 is a good thing, right? My worry is at DAL, we don't do WB Pay, we still pay by type, driven by the seats/weight/speed model from the 1960's. If and when the 787's come to DAL and replace the 777's and 747's, it'll be pay cuts all around if we keep using the same formula for pay rates.

You're right, it's not so much the rates. The major savings of the common type is having one BES instead of two. The staffing requirements will be lower with one BES. CAL already has one BES for the 757 and 767, plus they don't have any domestic vice international BES. I'm pretty sure many airlines break out qualifications into more BES's than CAL does.

This will keep CAL at just three BES's until the fences start coming down.

2020...and I tried -really hard- not to laugh when I typed that, but failed!

North West was supposed to get some 3 years ago, but after the merger, King Richard said he's happy with the current fleet, and pushed the delivery date back to, no kidding, 2020!

The MD-88 and DC-9 have a common type also. How does Delta man that fleet?

Totally different training, the 9 has no auto throttles or FMC.

But it goes fast!
