I didn't realize terrorists were forbidden from shopping at duty free. How about a bowling pin or a rolling pin for that matter? How about a tube sock full of nickels or a mag light? You can make a weapon out of almost anything.[/QUOTE]

Haha...I can't help but laugh at the thought of this fight breaking out at 33,000'. Almost Ron Burgandyish

How do you avoid "mentally unstable (or intoxicated/drugged up) people" outside of the "aluminum tube?"

The question doesn't require a response.

I'm not posting here to defend the TSA or anything they do or do not do. The TSA's is a virtual embarrassment. The fact is, their existence is an example embodying dimished freedoms in our country, but that is a topic for another discussion.

I have to agree with Shoelu. You can make a weapon out of almost anything, including allowed items, if you are motivated to do that. Bad things happen to people all the time. Sometimes those things are even caused by people they trusted.

The issue here is not the security of my loved ones. The issue is TSA's cheese.

If you are scared the people around you are going to start slashing you with a Swiss army knife then seriously just stay in your bunker. The TSA's job is to stop terrorists from pulling off a hijacking or a bombing. Not to enforce an airborne nanny state. I say it's about time.

What about my laptop? I don't have to take my shoes off and I can carry a 5 gallon bucket of liquids through but I have to pull my LP out? Seriously?

That'd be nice. Defending yourself with a breadstick isn't nearly as effective.

I'm not too crazy about the idea of my pax sitting behind me having a blade.

Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast. It jumped up a notch.
It did, didn't it?
Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?
Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Brick, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

What about a wine bottle or a 25 year old magnum of Cognac? One on one, I would rather have a .750 wine bottle than a 2 1/2 inch pocket knife. Heck, give me a pillow case full of hot wheels. Against a small blade, you're going down.

The bad guy has to wonder if the soldier from the 82nd Airborne seated in 13C has a knife too. This is a non-event, I can remember all us Alaskans getting on board with Buck folding hunters for years.

What about in the movie theatre, in the mall, or at a restaurant?
