Interviewed yesterday PM. Only five in our group.
Myself; Army C-12 IP and civilian King Air Navy P-3, Now reserve and KA 350 AF F-16 pilot, retiring AF C-130 pilot, obligation up The AM group had 6: AF heavy pilot, mid career AF F-15 pilot, retiring Navy P-3 pilot retired, flying King Air, I think second interview Civ heavy cargo Civ heavy cargo, now flying Lear One other guy, didn't get a chance to meet EVERYONE in recent interviews have type rating and early availability. They told us, as previously posted, 11 and 18 Dec classes of 30. The Jan class will be (I think) on the 2nd with 30 as well. More interviews and classes to follow. Either "several" or "couple" hundred to be hired. They anticipate continued hiring for a while, due to retirements and other attrition (medicals, etc) "for a while", but not huge numbers. The November DB will included everyone interviewed on the 6th and earlier. Our DB will be early December, and a few MIGHT make it to the 18 Dec class. Based on that info I'm guessing 150-180 on Nov DB for 50-60 hires, or roughly 1 in 3 per interviewed. Old gouge is pretty much accurate as far as format, questions, etc. There was only one "interview" that was an HR and pilot, not multiple individual interviews. They wanted a year by year break down of past one, two and three years and then also a total of the entire five years. Wasn't too hard to do and the logbook guy had his calculator, but if I had on one of my sheets, it would have made things smoother. One of the other guys was surprised by this as well and the log book guy seemed to think we should have known. They have plenty of water, coffee, peanuts and pretzels. I flew in in the AM and went straight to the HQ on the SWA shuttle, thinking I could eat at the cafeteria, but not an option for us as indicated in previous years with the all day interviews. There are also no vending machines available. Felt pretty good about the two on one interview, indifferent about the LOI and not at all good about the log book review, which should have been a non issue. Hopeful, but not real optimistic, especially as I don't have any inside letters. Several friends of friends, but no one that can really could vouch for me. |

Drug tests happen after the decision board--why waste $ on a test for someone you may not hire? Might want to check the source of the rumor of people being told to get drug tests at this stage in the game.

Several friends of friends, but no one that can really could vouch for me. my logbook was spotless, no mathematical errors and I even printed out an extra sheet breaking down the time even further. Oh and I use log ten on my mac and its printed out in a very nice format with an expensive binder. I even got compliments on it when we were in the get to know you part in the board room next to the people dept. |

Interviewed mid Oct- same experience as Intel 33- 2v1 interview seemed to go well, LOI seemed straight forward with 'crew' they gave me- very receptive to my critique- logbook review didn't go well. Guy didn't like my numbers although my paperwork was flawless, log books were immaculate and I could justify all numbers and how I got them- and didnt use a conversion (7400 hrs plus- mostly mil...). Very confrontational and condescending- guess he didn't get the same brief from Rocky that we got before the session started that said if you are having a bad day at SWA, just stay home so it doesn't infect the rest of those around you... Could be the role he was supposed to play and try to get under my skin- hope I didn't let him...
Other buddies have gotten the 'go get a pee test' call- not me so it is true it is happening but I agree, why if there has not been any DB yet? Doesn't make sense...but them again a lot of what happens in this industry doesn't. |

FWIW. If you do not fit a profile defined by previous intern, 20.0 year military retiree, or F15/16 background, do not be surprised by indifferent to hostile process, questions, or interviewers. If you feel the LUV then run with it, but do not underestimate that unlike other places it is not your job to loose, you have to convince them not to tube you. Be ready. And good luck!

I've known several F-teen pilots with impressive resumes and loads of internal recs that got no LUV out of the interview process. Contrary to popular belief there is no fast jet easy path to a job at SWA.

Any insiders have any information on the DB? As in how it works. Is there still a chance for everyone who's packet goes before the board?
