DJ - I agree that the perspective, or biases, of each participant has to be considered. But some things are probably universal, like having flown with organizations known for having excellent training and/or SOP's, college education, higher GPA's, undertaken different professional challenges, etc, etc. None are a guarantee of a better candidate but they collectively might point towards a better candidate.

Nice stats! Congratulations!

I'm sure Mr. Gasson would be proud...

Default Who's been hired?

United

~3200 total
~2900 TPIC (F-15E and AT-38)
IP, SEFE, FCF
Fighter Sq DO and CC
Currently in non-flying staff job
BS Mech Eng, 3.4
Masters from ERAU, 4.0 (paid my fee, got my degree!)
5 internal recs
2 speeding tickets (mid 90s, stupid Lt)
No failures or violations
No volunteer work

App in Spring 2015 with availability of September 2017
Received "We want to interview you but your availability is too far in the future, email us when you're within 6 months" letter in December 2015
Updated availability to 1 June 2016 on 28 Feb 16
Hogan invite 4 Mar 16
Interview invite 7 Mar 16
Interviewed 5 Apr 16
Job offer 14 Apr 16

Note: Other than a few hours to get my ATP and MEI certificate, I haven't flown since September 2014 (18+ months). Several folks throughout the process have said United is no longer holding fast to the 100 hrs in previous 12 months rule.

Congrats and welcome. Good to hear about the 100 hrs deal and 18 months out isn't that long. I talked with CV (previous chief of hiring) a couple years ago about this issue and he was pretty adamant about the 100 hrs. Perhaps this has changed and/or been relaxed with the new hiring staff. I have a number of friends in your shoes finishing a stellar service career in a non-flying staff job.

Thanks to both of you for the welcome. Yes, I believe United is now looking at the "big picture" for those not currently flying. I heard that from several folks, including United employees and some of the consulting firms.

The 100 HR within a year rule is a myth now. I was hired in December of 14 and was 18 months into my pentagon (non-flying) tour. It was never once mentioned in the interview.

Thanks a lot! And that's a great way to describe that last month and half!
