Delta

- 4,800+ Military (all the boxes checked).
- App went live 2013.
- 2014 shot myself in the foot and got hit with a staff job I couldn't escape. Goodbye, recency of experience.
- Retired early this year and hooked up with SkyWest.

On 29 July at 0900 or so I updated the app having crested 200 hours in the last twelve calendar months (ok, since May). At 1330, DAL sends me an invite. Maybe it was coincidence but I infer the recency of experience measure is 200 hours.

Looking forward to a November class date.

Congrats on Delta! It's great to hear you were hired out of SkyWest. I have a couple of military friends just hired with Skywest and are hoping for it to be a stepping stone to the majors.

You may have missed the beginning of the wave, but the tide is still rising and the waters here at Delta are quite comfy, despite what you may read re: contract negotiations.

Going back to topic of no university degree. Thinking about leaving Europe (dual citizen) and trying my luck in the US. With 7000 hours on 737s and 4000pic on type, plus EASA training/examining qualifications would it still be nearly impossible to crack into one of the 3 majors without a university degree???

A degree is a virtual must... Let me put it this way: to get a call even with a degree is a challenge. Now, imagine your odds without a degree...

Were you a check airman or in your lingo, a TRI/TRE?

Aside from flight time, what else do you bring to the table? How many other checkboxes can you check off?

Unlike in Europe, major airlines don't care about type ratings or time in type, nor do we hire DEC's at this level...

The question is... what separates you from another regional jet captain who's familiar with the US regs and how things are done here?

Rednex - UA at one point stated that they'd hired 3 non degree pilots out of 1,800 hired. That's 1 in 600. Look around you, do you think you're in the 0.3% group?

The 'new hires' tend to be very experienced in the U.S. It's very common to see experience in 3, 4, or more different aircraft. 7,000 TT and 4,000 hrs PIC? The average civilian guy DL hired in 2014-2015 was slightly more experienced.

So here's probably how the U.S. would rank you -
College? No. Pass.
Flight time? Average.
Downside? Primarily in one a/c. In the US that is viewed as a negative. No 121. No US operational experience.

With a degree you're competitive for the leading US companies. Without a degree you'll probably be limited to the smaller, but still decent, US carriers. Hit the major job fairs and ask the various companies.

A big recommendation is 'fix holes in your resume'.

There are online degrees that qualify.

What's your age? At 60 i wouldn't bother. At 25 I'd be enrolling. In 5-6 yrs you could have a four year degree. Maybe in the future only a two year degree is required? Or perhaps none?
