Sorry realized I didn't really ask a question. I guess i'm trying to get perspective on my timing coming into this profession.

You'd have to be very aggressive and realize anything can change that projection. Also, make SURE you do homework first. Job is tough on the family even if you live in base...and bases move frequently. Commuting is a terrible way to go through life. Do not believe your flight school...add 20% to quoted cost. If you can deal with that and still want airlines, jump in!

You will have a great career if you get in because you love to fly airplanes, want to be on the road and see different cities. Some get to the majors quick and some it takes half of their career if ever. You have to be ok with that. This is what it takes to stay in and stay happy. If you want big money and that's your drive, start your own business. Love it for just the flying and don't worry about the timing. Trying to time it will only get you frustrated. People who worry about the timing seem to be the first to be disappointed and quit. JMO

I have observed this as well. It can be quite the humbling experience.

Very few people are end-all and be-all pilots. If you don't make it to the majors in whatever time-frame you give yourself, don't give a second thought to doing something else. I personally believe that giving yourself deadlines and time constraints isn't a bad thing. "I just love flying" is not the perfect excuse to ignore other potentialities.

FYI, Today the air force just approved VSP (voluntary separation pay) for hundreds if not thousands of active duty IP level or higher pilots. The market is going to be flooded with a lot more instructor/evaluators than previously thought, effective June 1st. Stay patient everyone.

I don't think its in the thousands, but yes, there will be a mini-flood of ready USAF pilots throughout the summer months.
