Unless the upgrade times drop down. Which I'm watching.
With that said, I'm only thinking Spirit because I feel that is as high up the "ladder" as I can realistically reach. I understand they hire competent 135 pilots regularly. Some years ago they hired someone from my department (no 121). Also, by the third year I'd be making what I make now.

I didn't think of Spirit as being in the same league as South West and Jet Blue. I know they are all low cost carriers but I thought SW and JB where harder to get on with.

I'm probably clogging up the thread and getting in the way of all the real airline pilots celebrating their victory. Thanks for all the info. If anyone else has some more feel free to PM me.
Sincerely, Southernpilot
Southwest is harder to get hired at as I'm sure their volume of applicants is higher than both Spirit or JetBlue. I would say Spirit and JetBlue are probably equally difficult to get hired at right now.

I get where you're coming from and I think you could find Spirit a good place to stay for a career or at a minimum a good place to wait until one of the Big Three (DL, UA or AA) calls. My main point was that IF 121 SIC time was what you were after to be competitive for the legacies, there are easier and quicker ways to get it than to get hired at a LCC. Especially for someone like yourself who already has lots of TPIC time.

From an economic standpoint, does Spirit honestly care if theyre a revolving door? Theyre the #1 airline in the US in profit margin by a long shot. If they can get an FO to fly for them on first year pay for 6 months and then bail to a major, they would take that deal any day of the week. Their training costs are fixed costs and essentially irrelevant. Don't worry about using Spirit as a stepping stone. Their management secretly LOVES it!

SW will get easier to get hired at vs 5-10 yrs ago. They're no longer the hottest, and only, girl in the bar.

Quick question for the crowd...I have two speeding tickets, one in 1993 and one in 2007. I only remember the states, not cities, counties, etc. Will the state info suffice for the airline apps, or should I request my driving record from the DMV for the specific info? Thanks!

I had one in 1993 that was on the interstate in Kansas. I put "Unknown" for the county on airline apps. Didn't stop me from getting hired.

Do they really want the info from that far back? I figured it was around 5 years.

Delta I believe asks to go back ten years. I pulled my driving record from the dmv and listed those.

I thought so too, but its actually in your lifetime. I found this out at my interview and they were gracious enough to let me write in an additional ticket from 1997 right there on the spot.

They are very clear at the interview...it is EVER IN YOUR LIFE. They truly don't care that you had 7x tickets in 2 years when you were 20. They'll ask you about it, I bet, but they don't care. They will care very much, however, if they pull your records and get back even 1x ticket that you "forgot" about.

If that did happen after they gave you a CJO, you'd still be ok, but they'd be ticked (they told us it has happened....and they were ticked). Since a couple of tickets was not an impediment to a CJO, why not just CYA and put them all down? I did and so did everyone I got hired with. It's no big deal. Just don't lie/"forget"!
