At 60,000 a month in lease cost, vice ten or more times that number for a new 100 seater, the 88's and NW -9's have a real place in the combined operation. I really think this is true.

I think that if we get together those NW -9's are going to used agressively to knock down some RJ flying and cut DCI costs.
I agree. I heard that we could buy 3 MD-90s for the price of one 76 seat RJ. I think in a merged airline the route guys would like to keep more of the NW DC-9s around than currently planned.

Training cost is minimized by keeping DC-9s as well. DC-9-30,40,50,88,90 are all 1 type rating. Fly one, ya can fly the other. Think about the flexibility......

Same type rating but I don't think they would be a common catagory. Delta had them separate when we had the DC-9.

At least until the DAL retirements overtake the NW retirements. AS posted before, they are a lot newer than '88's, hold a lot more passengers and we are actively seeking more MD-90's/

I've changed my opinion on this merger. Once I was against it but after reading much on the subject I believe this is in best interests for all parties long term.

Rumor, only rumor, take it for what it's worth, but I heard that we are close to coming to a deal. We will hear by Friday one way or another. And since I am on the rumor front, a potential proposal is that spliting the difference b/t DOH and relative seniority for the guys hired b/t 1995 and 2000. 2001 and on will go straight DOH. I am a 96 hire at NWA and that would put me towards the end of 97 hires at DAL. Just a rumor!

Republic did as well, but that was for pay purposes. You could have a common or blended pay rate like 757/767. Our 319s have the same pay rate as the 320 and there are 24 seats less in the 319. Your DC-9-88s hold 144 I believe? So 24 less would be the same as our DC-9-40 and -50. Certainly do-able and would provide maximum flexibility for the company in scheduling aircraft to routes. A couple days of differences training is all it would take.

This is not a rumor but a prediction.

I find it interesting that both mamagment teams have started squealing about the cost of oil.

Prediction: To put pressure on us they will start to imply cutbacks and grounding aircraft as the ONLY solution without a merger. Ie. Merger or furloughs (or a halt in hiring)......

Thats how they work. They are very good gangsters. We are very good wimps.

NewKnow,
I agree that is a standard practice...problem is all the objective evidence (oil price, stock ratings, and possible recession) would support their dastardly claim.
