Give that man a cigar.

You know something I don't get? Wasn't USAir #1 in ontime performance a month or two ago?

This is not quite true. There are several different provisions in the current Delta contract that would cause management problems if they attempt to merge without a joint contract. In particular the scope sections dealing with RJ's. The limits are numbers not percentages. The combined feed of the two airlines would be way over the limit. The contract also has limits on international code share that are in block hours. Until the two companies came together under one contract they would be in violation of that section also. This is one of the reasons the company wanted a joint contract upfront.

Contracts with management remind me of the treaties with the Native Americans. I.E. you can have everything west of the Mississippi. I had a no furlough clause at an airline, once....Still furloughed.
Somehow they(management) always find a way around it(that pesky contract). Thankfully, I don't have a dog in this fight....I sincerely wish you luck.

Keep in mind that when he was at NWA, Anderson dealt with the whole red book/green book thing and saw the strife created by that firsthand. He doesn't want to see that happen with a DAL/NWA merger - but that can all change of course if oil hits $120/bbl. Like others have stated hopefully we can work something out if they decide to merge - I'd personally hate to see a division between the groups like they have with US Air East/West.

It is really quite simple. If the boards of directors say it will happen. Guess what! It will happen.

Really?

Didn't the boards of UAL and AAA say a merger was going to happen? How'd that one work out?

Dougie Parker thought LCC/DAL was a slam dunk. His board, a whole lotta banks and some DAL creditors thought so too. How'd that one work out?

Slowplay,

I know you are against this merger but comparing it with America West attempts last year you are mixing apples and oranges. First, KLM/Air France have fronted 1B to help subsidize this deal plus there are numerous other investors that are pushing for it as well. Not to mention that both BODs want this deal to happen. The published business plan would have the combined airline profitable at 120bl. (If you wish to dispute this number please call your rep and ask him/her. This number was officially published by R.A and was another justification for the merger).

Since there are many forces that are desirous for this to happen the respective pilot groups should refocus their efforts and accept the fact that this may happen whether we want it to or not. Ergo, bashing each other is a waste of time whereas recognizing that this may happen and work toward an equitable agreement would be more productive.
