I think he forgot all about the 4 engine 100 seat jet aircraft NWA allowed to be flown as connection flights before the first Delta RJ.

If people hate you in the airline industry it's usually a good thing. The same reason people hate the guy who builds the big new house in the neighborhood. They're envious of your bases, equipment, payrates, or whatever it might be. Why have so many had a problem with AA and United over the years and why do so many seem to have a beef with SWA now? Embrace the hate....

Actually, the Delta pilot group was not like in the mid 90's because:
1. They didn't have jumpseat privileges
2. Their crews acted like they couldn't ride in the same hotel van with everyone else.

Personally, for me, it's water under the bridge. Can't we work on getting along right now? I'm really tired of hearing stories of pilots not speaking to pilots, or discussions of who is saving who, or who is responsible for who's payraise.

Let's move on.

I think you have missed the point of my post. I could go up to Atlanta every month in the summer, bid a reserve line and do rolling thunder for 120-140 hours a month. I wouldn't have a life, but again I would have money. My point is why should we accept that we have to do that? Like I said, I'm in my ninth year here. I'm going on my third management team in that period of time. It's funny how there is no money for pilots but we can prefinance retirements and pay the taxes on it to boot for each management team. If we actually get a management team in here for the long haul that proves, with deeds not words, that we are all in this together then I will feel differently about our pay.

As for the everyone hating us comment, it is directed at how hostile it gets around here during contract negotiations. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you haven't been around very long. The cycle, or playbook, generally goes like this: 1. company asks for something, 2. union says no or makes counter offer 3. company starts putting out memos about how we, meaning Delta airlines, are going to go down in flames due to the pilots not willing to give this (insert 32% paycut, remember do it once and do it right, or the follow on 13.5% paycut, down from the 19% they originally wanted or the retirement, or relaxing of scope) 4. union ultimately gives in with just enough given from the company to get a 60/40 split on the vote. They, meaning management, are very good at this.

Time to go back outside and play with the kids. The reason I don't feel like spending any more time away from home than necessary.

The AVRO's entered service in 1996 and were limited to 69 seats.

Correct. The first Comair RJ entered service as DELTA Connection in early 1993. Everyone else had "NO JETS" in their scope clauses. I was there in MSP when it first showed up.

BTW, ASA ran the 146 in its FULL configuration for DAL way before the Avro's showed up in 96.

Besides, NWA guys have nothing to prove to this guy. We've got our "battle stars" to show we know how to stand up to management. How many does ANY DAL guy have (from DAL)?

Culture change is a good thing...and it's coming.

Oh, I agree that our pay is not enough. Do not get me wrong. But I do not think that asking for the moon during a recession and a merger is wise. Could we have gotten more, maybe, less definitely.
Just because I am bullish about our future does not mean that I am drunk on Kool Aid. I just think that our odds are a heck of a lot better than anyone else.

Is that why your total compensation has lagged DAL for all but two years of your career? BTW, you should take a look at the latest Liz Fedor MST article to see how effective your scope clause is...

Culture change is a good thing...I hope you embrace it. Might put more money with better quality of life into your contract.

Hey Super, NewK, Capn, you guys going to enjoy another round of "mine's better?" I'm done with it (I hope.) Personally, I'd rather work to make this merger as succesful as possible, including buying the first round.

If you look at strictly pay rates, then maybe. The rest of your contract is nothing to be proud of.

105 seats, but I think it flew ASA code, not Delta. Back then ASA would develop and market it's own routes independent of Delta.

It did not fly that much. It was very unreliable during contract negotiations.
