What’s absolutely incredible about it is that someone that lives in Louisville could very possibly (and indeed more the likely) be at home more by commuting to DFW then living in base in SDF and flying out of there.

IAD is only a UAX base and is presently CRJ only. IAH is only a UAX base and is presently Ejet only. The other bases are American and CRJ.
On the UAX side, I would be hard pressed to recommend Mesa until United CPA’s are renewed. There are still reasons to come here. It remains the best regional in IAH (for now).

don’t have to commute initially. UAX doesn’t really work for me. Compass is still on my radar. Only if I had a crystal ball.

If I lived in PHX, I would go to Compass. I would upgrade in LAX and transfer back to PHX when I could hold a line, or when I had been hired by a major.
At Mesa, you would likely be commuting to IAD for several months before transferring back to PHX. A very long commute. One that makes the Compass PHX to SEA commute look tame.
It depends on your goals and background.

The biggest factor about Mesa for me is home base. I live under an hour from IAD. Are they still short of FO's out of IAD? How quickly from submitting app to flying the line is it at Mesa? I've heard horror stories on this forum about people waiting months after ground school. Also, is it getting better at Mesa? They used to be the bottom of the barrel but from what I can see, pay and union contracts are getting better. I'm new at this part 121 thing and trying to do as much research as possible. Form what I can see on Flight Aware, the legs out of IAD don't seem to be that bad. Any insight would be very much appreciated.
