I don't work for Mesa. But I'm going to assume its similar to all other airlines. And say its in accordance with federal law.

Yes, we have a commuter clause. If you get called to military duty, they schedule around it. If you are deployed, you keep your seniority number.

Do you mind sharing the details?

Would anyone care to share some of the pros and cons of the contract at Mesa? I'm most curious about the pay structure, cancellation pay, and the commuter clause. I'm still learning the 121 contract lingo so I'm not really sure what else to ask in terms of contracts.

I'm not sure what you want to know about the pay structure. Cancellation pay is easy though. Basically, reserve schedules are worth (75.83?) hours, and lines vary on what they're worth. Even if every flight gets cancelled for the month, you get payed what your schedule is worth. We get payed "block or better", so if you are "blocked" (scheduled) for say, 2 hours and you sit in the penalty box for an extra hour, then you get payed for 3. This really only applies if you're going to go over your schedule guarantee though.

The commuter clause used to be limited to 2 uses, but that limit was recently removed. You basically don't get coded as an absence as long as you listed for and were bumped off of two flights that would get you to base (1 hour?) before your show time. Obviously it's important to be on time, otherwise you're going to get a call from a CP.

(Line Guarantee) If you were awarded a 90 hour line and two flights were cancelled you get paid 90. (Block or better) only applies for the entire bid, not per leg, big difference. You had a 90 hour line, you flew 80 + 5 over-block = 85. Then you had the last 10 hours of your schedule cancelled. You would just get your line guarantee because your total time block does not exceed your line guarantee.

Commuter clause has changed so much not sure. Last I heard was first flight must arrive 2 hours prior to showtime and you must have at least 1 backup that would get you there within showtime. Only once a year when I used it 3 years ago.

That's the bit I left out. It's a monthly guarantee, not a daily guarantee.

It's not cancellation pay. You get line guarantee or min guarantee if you're reserve.

I think, that's one of the Embraer USA's maintenance facilities. Maybe that's why FLL is of some significance for a press conference. Because it's not a base of ours and not a United Hub.
So is that as close to a confirmation of the IAH base as we're going to get? I guess when the planes start showing up we can call that confirmed.

I have been offered a future (summer) CRJ class date via airlineapps however I am wanting the IAH base. Will I have an opportunity to make this known to the powers that be at some point? I don't want to badger them with phone calls and emails but I'm hoping there will be a chance to state my preference before I start class.
