In my class, they were happy to let people switch whether they went to STL or stayed in PHX.

Yes you can. In my class they asked the FO's with the most experience to go, it was not required, if you were uncomfortable with they just asked someone else. No pressure. Its not that big of a deal though. If you get the opportunity to go I would take it. Its an amazing experience. You will do your sim training and check ride all in the same location.

One thing that has changed since I went through new hire is per diem is no longer given if you are sent somewhere else for sim than PHX. Toronto and Copenhagen are very expensive. If you put it all on a credit card trying to pay for food, beers, etc. you'll be spending your first few pay checks online paying for your experience abroad. As someone pointed out they try to not send you away from PHX when you are a new hire, but sim time is tight and they will if thats where the time is. I also heard Berlin as a rumor a few days ago.

It can be expensive for sure. But there are some places in Copenhagen that are very affordable. Took us about a week and a half to find them and get things down but when we did we ate like kings!

Edit: Oh, and of course its all tax deductible (to some extent)

No one is 100% sure on that. It seems to be that if they are confident you will pass and not need any extra sim time they will send you to either Denmark or Canada. People that may need extra time stay in PHX.

They are looking into Berlin right now as a new sim location.

How can they determine if you'll pass or not?

Sitting in class, it will be glaringly obvious if someone is weak.

Yeah, no one EVER fails out of training if they do a written, interview and sim ride prior to getting hired.
