Please explain, in detail, the difference.

If I am awarded an 88hr line and I fly 68 block hours due to 20 hours of cancellation, I am paid 88hrs.
I know what you mean. Most of the time line guarantee is just fine. Those times if you are above your line guarantee due to lots over block flights that month you could lose money in a way if a fight cancels. At least that's my understanding. So in those situations leg by leg cancellation pay wins over line guarantee.

They do. This is part of my question. Mesa pilots are the only ones I have ever heard in the whole industry call line guarantee, cancelation pay. They really are quite different.

You lose all your over blocks for the month with line guarantee. Cancellation pay is much better. They're not interchangeable.

Apples to oranges.

Lemme tell you about the true suck...

Being a S5 (RAH) FO at LGA and sitting at the airport all day being told "it's going to go" by scheduling and finally, after sitting at the airport 5+ hours they cancel your flight.

I made ZERO for all that. A wasted day, a wasted trip to and from the airport.

CLT planes are trickling to DFW. As LAX flying ends (PHX) planes will be shifted to DFW.

IAD is becoming the senior base. New hires can hold DFW within a month of being online.

So some new hire folks are still going to IAD?

So picking up premium open time is a really risky venture?

Depends on upgrades and movement. Newhires are going to IAD, PHX, and DFW out of training. But it's a highly transitional time and things are changing constantly. A few months ago everyone did time in IAD. Hard to predict exactly when you will be able to hold DFW or phx, but most likely right out of training. If not, the following month most likely. Record times in the last few years to not be stuck in IAD so it doesn't really matter. You'll get there soon enough.

In the past few months (in dfw) I would say yes. However if the past week and 1/2 is an indicator of the future, dfw is looking a lot better delay/cancellation wise.
