Actually at the aviation university I graduated from looked at doing checkrides in house. The problem they had with it was if you do that then you have to have a certain failure percentage for the FAA to continue to allow it. But like most aviation schools we had a few DPEs that we used constantly because they were fair and we knew what to expect beforehand.

Total Crap.

I don't know much about Riddle, but know that the DPE's ATP uses are hand picked (at busy locations these guys are getting $1000-1200 A DAY, cash) and are deathly afraid of ****ing off management. So they Santa claus all the ATP students and go bust the FBO guys to keep the FSDO happy.

I've seen good and bad students/instructors/pilots at each kind of flight school, whether it was a 141 collegiate program, ATP, or a mom and pop FBO. That said, the mom and pop FBO's (especially in rural areas) probably had some of the least experienced aviators.

I think it mostly has to do with your personal aptitude, your personal motivation, and the quality of your instructor(s).

Are you a better pilot because your parents/grandparents bought you a degree from ERAU? I'd rather sit next to a guy who has built up his flight time in real world flying in many different airplanes and in different conditions.
Are there good pilots from a 4 year degree program? Yes, I'm sure there are. But, what I've seen are lazy SJS wanna be's still living off their parents while pursuing their life long dream at 21 years old R-ATP morons that can't fly a cross wind landing. Book smart but still a dumba$$.

I'm hearing no more 175s after the initial 30 due to scope.

Is Mesa still paying $22/hour first year pay along with a 12-month training contract and $1.30 per diem?

Is there anything attractive about their contract that would make anyone want to apply there at those rates and conditions besides the shiny E-175?
