So the company gives us money in lieu of a service we don't use, and now we get ****ed about it. Like when I overnight where my dad lives, and I stay with him instead of the crappy hotel, and pocket an extra $25, I should be ****ed? I don't understand that logic. Previously the company gave us nothing, now we get something.
If this new thing results in people sleeping in airports, couch surfing, etc., that's on the gross individuals, not the company (don't think it will). I wouldn't double up to save $25 either. My privacy is worth that.
Usually we complain when a company takes something away or implements a crappy non-optional policy. This is optional and can give us cash. I don't understand the complaints.

I don't think it should be encouraged by the company but it's not a bad deal for those who already don't occupy a room on certain overnights.

Somebody explain to me why we're p-ssed off again? Because the company is offering financial incentives to reallocate an otherwise unused resource?

I think the complaints are more geared towards that now the company has an excuse for not updating some of the hotel choices. In which most (not all) are horrendous. I kind of think of it as a band-aid rather than fixing one of the problems which is ****ty hotels. Some of which make us pay for a cab if it's late enough and the hotel shuttle isn't running.

A contract is worth less than nothing if you don't make them abide by it.

Embarrassment is working for a company that can force a DH to take the JS from a commuting pilot out of certain domiciles. That's embarrassing.

Completely irrelevant to getting paid to not use a provided room. And what are people going to buy with that $25? Not another room, that's for sure. So I don't see how this is putting a band-aid on anything. We can save money if we have friends or family with a room for us, company saves money and helps the bottom line, it's kind of a win win.
Using someone commuting to PHX from ABQ/TUS/ELP as an example, this $25 a night overnighting at their home can offset costs if they need to get a hotel or crash pad in PHX.
Keep filling out complaints against our bad hotels, and if the quality of the hotel disrupts your sleep, refuse the hotel or call in fatigued.

Do other airlines do this? I'm assuming no, because its stupid and cheap. Do other crews stay at most of the same hotels as we do? No because they are ****ty. When did Mesa get so many fan boys?

Haha. More embarrassing than encouraging your pilots to not stay in the hotels and then only paying 1/4 of the savings back to you?
