*** are you guys mad about? I refuse hotels all the time - the company puts me in a different one - this is completely unrelated. Doesn't get the company off the hook for putting me up in an adequate hotel.
Now if I overnight in IAD/DCA - I'm going to my own place - this now makes me able to make $25 off my unused room. What on earth is everyone's complaint?
If you guys are having issues with hotels - have tracking put you in a new one. Have a spine.

Arrived in AUS late, was already down to min rest, another crew took our van down to "Boo-Daa" hotel refused us a cab. Ct supvr refused to book another hotel. We waited 1 1/2 hours for van. Got to hotel 30mins later, after the driver "took a shortcut".
Called CT and advised them we were gonna show late due to rest issue. I Was told by supvr that I'd be marked tardy.
Next day, my hotel and cell phones are Blowin up with "where are you guys?"
CT gives us all TRD (Tardy) we get re crewed on the rest of the trip. Later, I get called to cp office, I explain everything, and I'm told to fill out occur report.
CP didn't back me and I Still have that TRD on my record.

Been down that road, wasn't worth the stress the CO puts on you afterwards.

How is it stupid and cheap compared to what they paid us before if we didn't use a room (ie nothing)? I don't think the fact that most people agree that this is actually an improved policy for crews makes anybody a fan boy. Again, it's optional, and puts more money in our pocket than we had before.

Every time I've called Crew Tracking and asked them to push our show time back due to legitimate min rest issues, they've done so without questioning it. I even called recently to say we were still at the airport due to a late van, and they told me to call them when the van arrives. They're human. If you don't treat them like sh*t, things seem to work out pretty well.
Remember that every bit of communication with CT is recorded, so if they are trying to pressure anyone into doing anything illegal just bring up the regs and use specific numbers. They can't argue with that. And if it's bad enough file an ASAP, that way the FAA can see it and follow up with the company.

I had to switch rooms last week because of a noise issue in my room preventing me from falling asleep. When I called to request a later show they kept asking me what I wanted. I told them I wanted 8 consecutive hours of uninterrupted sleep opportunity plus a few extra minutes to get ready and get to the van. The supervisor got on the line and tried to b**** at me about it but oh well, not my problem.

Maybe your noise issue was really serious, but sometimes I can't sleep just because, and sometimes hotels are noisy. Last night, the fire door slammed twice and woke me up. That's life. I feel like there are a lot of pilots and FAs out there who will call CT at the slightest inconvenience when many times it's just the nature of doing a sometimes stressful job.

Should have called FAT as soon as cell phones exploded the next morning given that it was within the 8 hours of rest behind closed door - time frame.

Very similiar story in AUS occurred with a good friend of mine, slightly different outcome, however I doubt you are him as he is an FO at UAL as of recently....

Things like this used to happen a lot back in the day...
But the whole "Beau Dahh" thing with the waits, the long travel times, the unsafe drivers --85MPH in an overloaded minivan is an invitation to disaster. We frequently did not get our behind the door requirements met.
I believe that's why we're back in the city limits of Austin.
Now, if we could just get back to the Holiday Inn on Town Lake!
