Mesa 3.0

Well, maybe SkyWest or Envoy gobbles us up. No downgrades but perma-reserve for our junior Captains. People like to bad mouth the merger fund, but I think that was a proactive move by the union. Small price to pay for some peace of mind.

Skywest has to finish taking out ExpressJet before they can acquire us. Envoy can't buy us because of all the UA business we do.

Thanks for the update. It's odd that they would stop doing on-the-spot job offers when they're most desperate. But that's for them to worry I about, I suppose.
Makes you wonder how other regionals are doing when it comes to recruiting. You hear SkyWest and one or two others doing okay, but just okay. Employees of the wholly owned's don't have much faith in their ability to attract talent going forward, and the airlines with lowest compensation or highest upgrade time seem primed to struggle most.
I guess I'm wondering if Mesa is one of the first dominoes or on par with most of the regional industry. It'll be interesting to see. The retirements haven't even started yet.
It might take Mesa downsizing. Less engine overhauls to pay for, and less pilots to pay more. Of course, that means less revenue down the road and totally kills the slow-growth model the company's been after.

At this point, we are playing too nice with the company. They aren't negotiating in good faith, and are upping the bonus they give to new hires while they turn their head to the flight crews. I would like to see us petition to leave Alpa and bring in Teamsters.

I spoke with one of the negotiators and was told that the company has been really receptive to a number of demands. The negotiator had an air about him as to say he felt as though he was breaking through. I think they may be on a number of issues. I asked however if they had spoke about pay. He said they had not yet. JO said that growth and not pay was their focus. Mark my words, the company will not break much on pay at all, which is ridiculous. I don't know what managements issue is with paying at least industry average or better yet at livable wage, but they seem dead set on increasing their profit margins by keeping employee wages low. I am not familiar with the contracts that Mesa makes with mainline but my understanding is that we are in fact not much less expensive than our competitors. So where is the money going?
