Asinine Emails
That email was incredibly unprofessional. I by no means am a Mesa apologist, but you can't speak that way in negotiations. It only gives leverage to the company. Second I don't know about you, but Spirit, Atlas, Allegiant aren't awful places to work. They're certainly better than Mesa. And now you just ****ed them off.

This is the problem with pilots in general. Crying pansies afraid they're going to get sued and afraid to speak up. As if just complying and staying quiet will get you anywhere. They either need to bring Mesa pilots up to or above industry average or shut the doors. It sounds like you guys are at the boiling point. Status quo has clearly not worked.

To those MAG pilots upset about this, take a long, hard look in the mirror and think about your long term career and ask yourself what you are willing to settle for.

This is obviously a very polarizing email. I've been fielding calls all weekend from Mesa mgt, mesa pilots, and pilots and union reps from other airlines.
There's people who have stated they applaud the statement.
There's people who are already starting a recall of the 85 reps because of it.
Only time will see how this plays out. The fact that this has the chance of hurting what little chance I have of getting out of here is what's most troubling to me, especially since I had no knowledge or participation in the process.
Knowing Erik I know what he was attempting to do. However the words chosen and his execution of the process were wrong.
With that, I'll (attempt) to withdraw from future comments on it.

I am usually pretty neutral in all the goings on here. However, I would like to point out to you Mr. PBS, that you should have used 'US', instead of 'I', in this post. If you are truly a representative for the pilot group, you should be concerned for all of us. Not trying to start another fire, but we should be more united in the same cause. That's is the main problem here. Unfortunately someone's frustrations went out in a public email.

Maybe I'm missing something here but exactly what leverage is this giving to the company? They are already bending the union over and showing them who's boss. So what...someone in the LEC got fed up and expressed cold hard facts about what is really going on in the industry. People can whine and moan all they want but the company wins either way until pilots vote with their feet.

Cold hard facts is not calling out Spirit, Atlas, and others. Those places are good places to work. They may not be a "legacy" carrier, but they're not ****ty jobs. By telling pilots if you stay at Mesa, you're gonna end up at a ****ty place like that. That doesn't bode over well, and it tarnishes the pilot group. We had an HR person at our airline already comment that now they will think twice about hiring Mesa people with attitudes and unprofessionalism like that.
You don't get your way by whining and throwing a temper tantrum, nor do you do it on your own without consulting the rest of the people you work with. By doing that on your own, you're doing the very thing you claim the Union doesn't do. Reflect everyones interest, instead you are just reflecting your own and trying to score a few fringe points.
Ask yourself, what good does this do? People are already leaving in droves, not coming here, etc. So now you act unprofessional and on your own.
It affects negotiations because you have to negotiate in good faith, like it or not that's how it works. You cannot tell people to quit, not work, strike without the proper channels. Now, when you meet with a mediator the company can use this and say well the Union isn't acting in good faith they are telling people to leave, which only adds leverage to the company.
It's no secret that Mesa is a terribly mismanaged company, the CEO has no concept of reality. He runs the company off pride instead of reality, and that's a price they will have to pay. But adding fuel to the fire and fanning the flames is in no ones best interest.
