To the poster saying it's illegal, it's not. They gave him 10 hours of rest after calling him. What every one else is saying, when you are in a rest period, never answer your phone.
Also, you should NEVER EVER volunteer to notify your crew. That isn't your job. If you do run into your captain, he isn't obligated to accept your notification because you aren't scheduling. Just call them back and tell them you couldn't get ahold of him.

YES!!!! Typical noob mistake. I think CS knows this and ONLY ask probation FOs and FAs to do this.

Just curious if anyone knows. My union reps are not answering their phones. (so much for union support )
Scheduling just called me, interrupting my rest. I did have a 6AM show, and now they are saying I have a 12:50pm show. That still leaves me 10 hours + rest from now.
They told me to notify my captain because he is not answering his phone or the hotel phone. So I did, and he told me to not tell them he knows about the new show time.
Should I tell them the truth or should I lie and possibly lose my job cause I lied? Why the F would anyone not want a later show? He seemed pretty ****ed.
Is there some contractual or FAR reason?

Why do you think the company wants you to have a later show? Do you think they showed up to work today and said "this crew looks like they could use more rest"? No, they want to adjust your time so when the **** hits the fan they have you on the hook for longer, or they are already pre-planning an extension that previously would've been illegal.
The company isn't going to do you any favors, even if it looks good for you, if they propose it......it's bad.

From the new-age pilot helpline files:
"I logged in to APC while on a layover and a Troll grossed me out! Now I'm in no emotional condition to fly, and it's almost pickup time. Will FAR 117 let me call in upset? Oh, I also stomped on my tablet and threw it out the window. Is this a work-related loss for tax and insurance purposes? Should I consider changing careers?"

I always answer my phone. I am just trying to get flight time so every .1 helps. I don't care if I can't commute out. I can't wait to fly an Airbus. The captain should know that he's on the company's time so **** him if he's mad. He should be grateful for extra flight time. As for the FAs, they shouldn't be a FA if they can't deal with this.
I'm just so glad I fly the EMB-175 and not the 145. Might as well be flying a Cessna 150 if you're going to fly the 145.
