Hi!

I'm still unsure about my situation:

From everything I've read, I think I would ONLY be flying the UAVs.

I'm too old for a LEO position, and I think those are the ones where you would fly UAVs AND FW/RW manned aircraft.

Can someone confirm the above for me, or explain to me what my job situtation would be, if different.

Thanks a TON!

c12flyer,

I got trained up on UAS here in AZ at the Unmanned aircraft systems training battalion. I got into UAS at the right time when they had hardly any Unmanned qualified guys to train the soldiers. Been there ever since. I'm a contractor now and really looking to get into a job that will yield a decent retirement.

atpcliff,

They had posted two positions for CBP UAS, one was Vacnacy ID # 225581 and the other was # 225340. The latter appears to be Law Enforcement Specific and the 225581 is not. With that being said I'm going to assume that since 225581 is going to be more of a technical job than I dont really see why they would have an age limit. But I would also assume that you would be locked into UAS. Not sure which one you applied for.

Another thing im curious about is if they are going to cross train there pilots to do the Sensor Operator (SO) positions. The Air Force has the UAS pilot and the SO as separate Jobs. If they separate them then that may be another avenue to get in the door.

And I know this is the wrong forum for this, but the Cardinals are going to kick some Steeler tail!!

Ok I talked to my buddy (who is CBP AIA), there are guys who ride in the other A/C that are not LEOs, however they are not the pilots. Some of them, he says are senor operators or other things. Now of course I am not there yet, hopefully soon! And I am sure that someone who is a current employee can answer your questions better. I would ask your question on aptap.org they have some great guys who can answer questions.

Anybody get a call yet, the wait is beginning to kill me.

edit: The pilots(AIAs) can be senor operators too, at least thats how it is at my buddy's branch.

And oh yeah... GO STEELERS!

Also, do invitations for interviews begin once the announcement closes (May '09) or can they occur before the closeout? Thanks to anyone who can provide clarification on these questions.
And if seeking dual qualification, is there a RW checkride in addition to the FW Cessna ride?

B UNIT Have you served overseas as a contractor or otherwise? UAV civilian pilots make bookoo $ in Middle East.

Hey B-Unit, Congrats on your interview! I hope you interview better than you pick your winners at the Super Bowl!!! haha Just kidding, it was a great game. I am just a very happy Steeler Fan waiting for his EOD date to get here. Your interview will go smoothly and you have the experience they are looking for now. Good luck! Maybe the Cards in 2009????

If you are FW and RW qualified when you interview you will do a ride in both. At least that's how it was in '07. I don't think what you're seeking mattered.

Whats, up guys?

c12flyer, I have had many offers to go over seas lately and have entertained a few, however my wife is recently pregnant and leaving to go over seas for a long period of time is pretty much not going to happen at this point, but it is definatley good money.

byebyeairlines, The steelers earned it. Cardinals made so many aweful mistakes that it's hard to say any one thing that lost it for them.

Now for the crappy news. The HR lady in DC called and told me that she just realized after scheduleing me for an interview that I didn't meet the 1500 TT and therefore had to cancel my interview. Basically better luck next time speech. I tried to explaing that I had thousands of hours unmanned including dual given and she told me that unmanned time doesn't count right now and that they didn't have standards for it yet.

I just wish she would have checked that out ahead of time instead of scheduleing the interview only to call back later and crush my hopes.

Anyway. Im a little bitter, but what can you do.

Good luck to all of you cats. I'll still keep trying for CBP and Ill still be hanging around this forum. Thanks to all for the good intel.
