I hear Cessna 152 are real cheep... Do a couple of laps around the country, and you should be there in no time!!!

Seriously- As badly as they seem to be looking for UAS guys, would think they would have different TT numbers for the UAS job... There I go again, being logical... Gov. job.....

Heyas,

Interesting thread....

I applied to Customs (as it was known then) back in 98. All civilian, dual rated, no mil or LE. At the time I had about 7500TT, with about 5000 135/121 turboprop, about 800 heilo (mostly R-22 time with a bit of turbine), with ATPs and CFIs in both (including a rotor CFI-I).

Filled out the form (no on-line apps back then), and it got kicked back because I hadn't checked the "instrument rating" box, even though I had marked ATP. Oh well, took about 3 months to get that re-submitted.

Three months later I got the call for an interview at Homestead three months down the road (I'm from SoFL anyway). Everyone seemed top notch. I had set up some review time in a C-182RG (closest thing to a 210 I could find for rent), and had some B-206 time lined up.

I don't remember my score, but at the time, dual rated pilots got a bump in pay grade.

About that time NWA called, so I bailed on the process. I always wonder what it would have been like. When I called to cancel the interview, they seemed honestly bummed, because they were having a hard time finding people, especially dual rated who were intersted in living in MIA. The airlines were hiring gangbusters then, so like everything else, it's a matter of timing.

Yeah you would think that UAS exp. would count, but I guess I understand that their UAS program is so new that they're not really sure how to go about things yet.

I'll keep building hours and trying.

Default CBP pilot

Hello all, I have been reading this thread for a while and was wondering what the LE positions and non LE positions are? I applied back in December of 08 under the 221185 posting, in that job description it says that I would have to go to the FLETC but then in the notice of results it says this

Series - Position Title: 2181 - AIRCRAFT/AIRPLANE/HELICOPTER PILOT (AIA)
Vacancy ID Number: 221185
Announcement Number: MHCAMDE-221185-JMC
Date of Availability:
Full-time Employment: Yes
Part-time Employment: None
Temporary Employment: None
Travel Availability: None
Geographic Availability:
Bellingham, WA
Tucson, AZ
Spokane, WA
Veteran Preference: 5 Points - TP (adjudicated)
You must meet all medical, suitability, and qualification requirements to be considered for a position.
Specialty Code: 001
Specialty Title: AIA PILOT UAS PREDATOR B
Grade: 11
Rating: 91

So does that mean I am being considered for a Predator slot?

Also one thing that concerns me is that someone on here was turned down for an interview because they did not have 1500tt, but they did have multi time and that was elligible for a waiver. Does this mean that they are not accepting anyone with under 1500TT even if I have around 800 turbine and 600 multi?

Thanks

(AIA) is a LE position assigned to the Predator from what I read.

Air Interdiction Agent (AIA) is the LE pilot position. The UAS is now included in the application. We are all being considered for the UAS position and the regular AIA position.

As for not meeting the min TT, if you meet the requirements for the waiver then you will be given an interview. Some of the examples for the waiver are listed on the usajobs website.

So even though you would be flying a UAV and not in a position to have to actually make an arrest - they are still considering a UAV position a LE Officer position and therefore the age restriction (40) stills applies then? That doesn't make sense if it is the case.

I think it has something to do with some requirement for legal that everyone involved in law enforcement activity be a LEO... they are also rotating the UAS guys through the FW or RW aircraft.... UAS guys usually fly the real thing atleast once a week to maintain currency....
All of the above info is based on what I have been told by AIAs and read on the board... So take it for what it is worth..

I understood (though still don't agree) with the pilots being a LEO and having to go through FLETC and such because they said that they might have to jump out of the plane and actually arrest someone (thus the FLETC training and the requirement to be below 40 y/o due to federal retirement and such) - but that just doesn't apply to some guy sitting in a trailer flying a UAV. If they aren't going to let over 40 (military retirees specifically with nearly every qual in the book that they are looking for) actually fly the airplanes then they shouldn't also cut them out of the loop in case some of those same people want to fly the UAVs. This is of course all my opinion and I am upset because this is job that I would dearly like to have.
