I have not met anyone this way who was applying for it. I know a couple people who took about $100K to get out about 2 years ago via VSP and one was interested in coming back in if they would not ask to pay back the VSP, but not sure how that worked out as I haven't spoke to him in a while. Maybe I am off base, but isn't the recall for people to go to UAVs, 11Rs, 179 day TDYs and some staff jobs? I haven't heard if they are offering any fighter guys back in for that same deal. It must not be very good deals IMO to get people to come back in, but thats my .02. Now, if they were offering no deployment AETC instructor gigs or FTU instructor slots with no deployments, I imagine there would be a good line around the corner of those willing to do those jobs. So, if we haven't heard much from between here and baseops.net, I can only imagine these are less than desirable positions, but could be wrong!
He didn't sound like they were getting flooded with application. I wouldn't be surprised if the rumored "new" plan sweetens the deal. He said they have 1600 positions to fill!

Yes, you are correct. Don't know about a sweetened deal. I just know they're not getting the desired response so far

Is there anyone applying to the Temp Recall? I'd think that everyone would want to be a little more vocal about where they are applying and what's being offered.
Instead of acting independently, figure out what kinda clout you have. A little sharing of ideas could go a long way.
ACP isn't being offered, but how many are applying, will that change?

I went into Elmendorf a few days ago to inquire about the process and was told there are 5 guys locally submitting their apps. right now. The physical is the same as the initial entry and takes a while, although if you have your old medical records and waivers it does speed up the process. So it may be some time before they get through the process and we can find out what they are being offered.

Do ou have to retire first and then reappply
Not necessarily. I talked to CJ last week and he didn't rule out going to AETC to instruct in any aircraft (I'm a Buff driver, 23+ years, set to retire in 9 months). I've met all my gate months and honestly I'm fed up with all the extra crap we put up with in the nuke world, plus I'm really hating the 9-hour training sorties sitting in the IP seat for 8 of the 9 hours. It's only going to get worse when we move under GSC. I definitely don't want to re-up another 3-4 years if it means staying in the nuke flying world. I'd rather do an AETC gig, but quite frankly, I could settle for a staff job at 8 AF (yeah, I know you're tired of Shrevehole) or GSC. CJ made it sound like any of the above 3 jobs was possible. You just don't know until you fill out the application and get their offer back. If you don't like it, you have 14 days to decline with no strings attached.

You mentioned that you are set to retire in 9 months. Are you saying that you will take your terminal leave, retire and then apply to come back for the staff position. Or send your application in prior to retirement and transition to a "new deal" because technically you are coming back from retirement?

nfnsquared,
If you are currently AD and set to retire, I have no idea why you would be looking at this Temp recall to active duty. I believe you are in position to say, "I'm planning on retiring, but if you could offer an AETC tour, I'd be willing to sign a 3, 4 or 5 year contract with the ACP bonus of course".
I believe you are driving the boat. I have friends that are stating on their resumes to AFPC that I will only entertain,... fill in the blank... - i.e T-6 instructor, NAS Pensacola, etc.
Just my thoughts, your situation may be different.

I am in the process of moving my application thru. Need a couple of signatures and then it is off to AFPC. I am going to ask for the world, but accept what I want! I want to go back to the eagle, but I doubt they will be able to do that for me due to limited TX availability. I am guessing 2-3 months for my answer, but I will keep you all posted.
As far as a "unionizing" to give us a stronger position, I think it would be difficult. I have read here that a couple of people would take staff jobs, etc. Everybody has their pain threshold. For me, I will not entertain a UAV or any other recce platform (read: C-12) but I would be happy in a T-38 or T-6! There are probably a couple of decent staff jobs out there as well!
If you are holding a line at an airline, you dont need the recency so that staff or ALO job may not be the worst thing, especially if it pays the bills during furlough. Also, they fully admit that you will be opted, and probably will, deploy just not 365s. I have heard from numerous sources that you will not be opted for the 365 day TDY (that one I will require in writing from AFPC before I sign anything!).
I will keep updating as I get info. If anyone hears about a "sweeter deal" offered, I would love to hear about it!
