Pope Wing CC fired
#41
Just to refocus this thread...I brought the firing of this O-6 up because he was my commander many years ago, and he ranks as THE WORST CC that I've had in my 19 year career. I was hoping for some intel as to why he was fired; the article cited his leadership skills. (Rumors say that it has something to do with Obama's visit...I doubt that). I could have told the Air Force about his leadership skills/style 10 years ago and saved them a lot of money and embarrassment. You always hear stories about how the "good guys" always finish last in the AF & military. Finally, one of the "not so good guys" gets what he deserves.
As a side note...each one of my former squadron mates who I have told about this has been just a giddy as I have. This guy was out for himself 10 years ago, and I imagine he still was, up until the day that he was fired.
Fly safe.

I cant speak to the first firsthand but I can confirm the last as a former underling...oh and he was the CC of the crew that crashed in Kuwait and killed some folks in the back many years ago...
He did that aircrew no favors either to the point that AIS had a class trashing him when I went in 2006.

Are you referencing the Al Jabar incident? I thought that AC did not fly again.
Now that my tiny brain has thought some more, I think this guy was the deployed wing CC at Salem 2 years ago. Is that the same guy?
After further thought, they guy I'm thinking of was Wg/CC 3 years ago...don't know how I got confused on which of my 7 deployments it was on...

Ops group commander at Salem. I was there for it and then he followed me home... Im not saying the crew was not to blame in the Jabar incident. I am just saying that a commander should do everything he can for his people no matter what and instead many choose to keep their distance to not get dirty or any stink on them. No underling will stop their rise to the top kind of thing...true leadership in the AMC vein.

I had a CO (O5) that had an open affair with our Intell Officer (O1). It was funny walking by his BOQ room and he was sitting there in his scivvies..beer in hand, with her. Heck, she got two NAM's on that tour - and got transfered to the Pilot Pipeline. Well, ...some of that promotin and taking care of the troops stuff.....I guess. Needless to say, Pilots from our Squadron were not allowed to be her Instructor. Didn't hurt either one of their carrers one iota. Shoot, our Maintenance Officer (O4) hooked up with our Doc (O3) (he made CO too) - that might be allowed though....not sure.
Sorry, I digress and hijacked the topic. Yea, guess I threw out the "sexist card" for telling the truth. Sorry again...waaa, waa, wa.
Please notice this does not condemn "everyone" in the Military for those who have their gun on me. Please notice others have "hijacked" the thread as well in the same "spirit" of ***** and complain.
Please...now what about that guy at Pope AFB??? .....marsea

In my first squadron I had the exact same situation. It turned out differently for my CO - who btw was on the fast track to becoming bigger and better things - somewhat of a golden boy in the community.
There is nothing wrong with an O-4 and O-3 - especially if not in the chain of command, as a Maint O and Doc would not be conflicted. I have known of a CWO-4 married to a LtCol.
Even if you can not see it - your initial posts were a widespread shot across the bow of the whole military; that is why many took offense to your post. As many others have pointed out - you seem to still have an axe to grind. If you chose to sharpen that edge here then take the responses as they come.

SOPINESHEEL:
I think I remember this dude as the OG at Salem in 2005, taking over the OG I think. He was definitely not just a tool, but the whole tool bag. Seems to be required to make O-6 to do as little time at each job as possible and leave you people high and dry as you climb the ladder. Seriously, what does the AF have against leaving CCs in their positions for more than 1.5 to 2 years. You just get used to one dude and whammo, next guy who brings in his own agenda.
But I digress, I should have left all my hostillity behind when I got out, yeah right. AFRES rocks!!!
There have been a few good O-6s and O7s I have met, heck I used to fly with Norty(CSAF) as his pubs carrying extra copilot back in 2001, we would drop him off at Eielson for a meeting when he was ALCOM CC and then I would hop in the seat and fly PRO until we picked him up. He was as down to earth as a guy can possibly be, and had some of the best flying skills I have ever seen in a senior officer.

Hey...what good is being a General if you can't dork the help?
That's too bad about he Montana CC. Funny thing I've always noticed is that some guys think as you move up you can get away with more. In fact, the higher up you go, the less and less you can pull off. Watched Scotty Rogers up at Elmendorf self destruct then go on 60 minutes for a counter offensive against the Barstoolers, Fighter Culture, and about anything else he could think of. He had his active duty wife nodding her head right there along with him. The pattern of some egomanic leaders getting beyond themselves is a recurring theme, and I've seen the same thing again and again other places.
These guys should close all their stand ups with someone reminding them like back in Roman days..."remember Ceasar, thou art mortal...."

USMCFLYR:>>What did your XO do about this **open** relationship?<<
Nothing. Like most Officers...that just crapped on those below....our XO had no spine. We had an AOM and one of our brave O3's (Works at NWA now) got up and said something. None of us dared say anything. These people would trash JO's careers at the drop of a dime. At least keep you off the flight schedule. Nope, the affair was right out in the open. They would cuddle in the back of the plane when we flew them to Japan...they even had their own tunes. Honestly, I really could of cared less (about who is doing who) - but having it open and giving her not one but two NAM's and THEN a switch to the Pilot Pipeline (we had some NFO's that wanted the same) appalling. The Doc was a member of our Squadron.
Yea, that was the deployment where we were ordered to fly out over the Ocean and dump tons and tons of fuel to meet OPTAR.
If I had known it then I would have gotten a Congressional Inquiry involved.
I looked over my list. Yea, the last one was "fuzzy" and not relevant. In an earlier post I apologized.
