Not sure why my post, which was not a criticism, is ranted and yet the originator of this thread, which was critical, is not? Didn't this original post "tarnish" the "image". Oh well.

I did not "play the race card". Actually I am pro-diversity. It is well know that if you are a minority that it CAN give you an advantage...this was all I was saying. All the years of brutal discrimination in this country - I think women and minoritys should be given an up. I was the first Pilot at my Airline that signed the petition to allow gays and lesbians to claim there SO as a "dependent" as far as pass privledges go. I am fairly liberal.

On the 737 Recirc Fan. I was asking for "techniques". Read the post again.

Please, please, please....I don't need any Pilot telling me here that they are "in it" for the "troops" or the "greater good"....while you look for a job as an Airline Pilot with skills in hand from the Mil. I will accept this from, say, a 20 year, "on the ground with a gun guy", a SEAL, or 20 year Submariner....not a Pilot. Tell me...if it is so great why are YOU getting out???

No, I was not inspired by much of any leadership...at all. Except once in the Reserves. You were not in my shoes and did not see what I saw...which is too much to go into here. Suffice it to say it was not only my opinion but many of my other Squadron Mates. Do you really want me to go into it here? Won't this "tarnish" the "image" even more?

My post was merely an observation of why the government has "bad" people in it. Not, ALL bad, just bad (some). Obviously we need a Military. As long as we can attract good folks to it, like many of the readers/posters here - with the right incentives (future Airline Pilot) we will be "OK".

I apologize for hurting anyone feelings. If you have/do serve in harms way....Thank You.

Since you asked...

I am not here looking for a job (yet). I frequent this board to help answer the military questions..specifically, the USN reserve questions.

I am 3+ yrs out from retirement. I have skills in hand and I have had several chances to leave and I stayed. It is obvious from the statement/question above that you never did and you never will get it. FWIW, most of the people getting out now are fed up with the war time deployment schedules. The "crappy leadership/my job sucks" group is the minority.

All organizations have bad people. The airlines are no different.

Um, sounds like to me..."my job sucks". Yea, I am sure the Leadership is great otherwise the schedules would be worse.....OH, they are.

Sorry, is it "good" or "bad"??

Did that actually make sense to you as you typed it?

Your argument is that our leadership is bad because we're at war? I'm supposed to say my Wing/CC sucks because the country is at war and I have to deploy a lot? So he'd be a good leader if he deployed me less, and someone else picked up my slack?

So the only way I can be a good officer is if I never get out? Last time I checked we all leave the military no matter if you want to serve forever, you either die or one day you reach max time in grade/time in service. I'll still have a family to clothe and feed. Currently it doesn't appear I'll be able to meet those obligations as a civilian pilot, but are you saying none of us should look? Is a SEAL somehow slamming the military if he retires and takes his skills to a contractor and triples his salary? Does that somehow translate to bad leadership?

And yes you did play the "race card." I'm glad you have such concern for the second officers on crews with lesbians.

But, oh wait, you signed a petition? Holy ^%$#!, move over Rosa Parks make room for Marsea.

The original post was about a poor military leader being fired for, get ready for it, being a poor leader. Kind of stands on it's own. Your post was about....

You've slammed all military pilots, all military, how brave you were to sign a petition at an airlinje, etc, the list goes on too long. But somehow your reticent to discuss the problems of your military service? Yes, I'd LOVE to hear about how hard life was for you. So far nothing you've offered tarnishs the image of the military, only you.

Sputnik,

So if I have an African American (AA) friend and I tell him to make sure he puts his race as AA on the Application this makes me a racist of some sort? This is exactly what I said....if he were Hispanic make sure he indicates that AND that Hispanic is not, necesarily, a race. If that is the "Race Card" then your Deck must be full of Jokers.

Not saying I agree with Marsea. But I left the mil primarily due to the horrendous leadership in AMC. I have not met an AMC sq commander that was concerned about anything other than his personal career. Group commanders were even worse. I started to actively look for a role model and it was funny that every 0-5 sq cc or AMC O-6 that I encountered was in it for themselves and could not care any less about the mission or the welfare of the troops. FWIW.

We had some great ones at McChord! I was nothing but impressed with my squadron commanders. Consummate professionals. But, then there was the Comarade. There is always one or two of those. Oh, and we had the Dice.
