Default 1000hr TPIC

I put this here because I'm thinking of FDX/UPS, but I suppose the question can apply to any major carrier.

When larger airlines want pilots with 1000hr Turbine PIC, does ANY turbine satisfy the requirement? What about the RJ FO who has 1000 PIC in a Piper Cheyenne, or another light aircraft with a turboprop STC?

Are they looking for PIC time in a transport category aircraft, or do GA planes satisfy the hiring boards?

While I don't think any major carrier specifies what kind of Turbine PIC time you have; the vast majority of GA turbine aircraft lack one extremely important aspect that every major carrier wants:

A crew environment.

EVERY major airline during an interview will ask TMAAT questions regarding a crew environment of some kind. Of those questions they want to know how you handled things as a CA and FO in the crew environment. And if you've never experienced working in a crew environment 1,000 turbine PIC looks great, but won't do you much good with a major carrier.

With the exception being single-seat fighter pilots...of course...

In general the answer is yes, your RJ FO time will take care of crew environment questions.

It's usually best to avoid comment on something you clearly don't know anything about.

Wouldn't be the first time I've spoken out of school on something...so educate me.

How much multi-crew flight experience (the kind captain152 referred to) do single-seat fighter pilots typically have before they get hired by a major airline?

I would say that leading a four ship and coordinating the efforts of the pilots in the other aircraft demonstrates a similar skill set.

I have done both, the mil time and the regional time.....both offer very good, but different experience points. So unless you have flown a mile in those shoes....

Having been there, done that and taught that (in both worlds), I couldn't agree more.

There is no substitute for the SA learned and it directly translates to a multi-crew environment (or any environment for that matter).

Just my opinion (and that of many hiring departments) 1000hrs flown 1.3 at a time in a tactical environment is worth probably 3-4 times that going point A to point B or being flown straight and level at FL350.
