Well after sifting through the usual civil/military stuff, I think I got a few answers in there. Thanks

What if the person didn't have any crew time though? What if all the time was single pilot in that Piper cheyenne? Would he still be able to get the interview or would they say "erm...that's not exactly what we had in mind..."

I wonder how many FO's have wanted to do that!

Stepping in here...

This thread is about this
I put this here because I'm thinking of FDX/UPS, but I suppose the question can apply to any major carrier.

When larger airlines want pilots with 1000hr Turbine PIC, does ANY turbine satisfy the requirement? What about the RJ FO who has 1000 PIC in a Piper Cheyenne, or another light aircraft with a turboprop STC?

Are they looking for PIC time in a transport category aircraft, or do GA planes satisfy the hiring boards?
And somehow morphed into a military vs civilian vs single pilot vs crew debate. Lets put it back on topic.

I had some friends get hired at UPS in the 90s with only Cheyenne/King Air time. Don't know if that will happen again or what UPS will be looking for whenever they hire again.

DC-4's didn't have a F/E, that was a real live civilian navigator. Probably originally from Matson Steamship Line.

Just and opinion, I don't do hiring.
Some of the best pilots I have flown with come from the civilian background, single pilot , IFR, turbine and otherwise. East coast and great lakes winters and very little support. Most had to work another job to get the flying . They are quick and adaptable and learn working with a crew quickly. Next are the Mil transport guys , big aircraft background, some into difficult operating environments, very easy to get along with , understand the systems on the airplanes.

I know a guy that got hired last year at FedEx that had around 1,000 hours PIC in EMB-110 (single pilot!)
and then was a RJ FO.
I'd imagine if you can put it on your profile it will count. But what do I know?

I honestly don't think it matters. Apply, wait for a call and talk about your experience in an interview. They know based on the resume/logbook what kind of experience you have. Now, are you going to be competitive with the GA turbine time? Probably not, unless you have good contacts at the company.

Contacts always trump flight time.
