Stay far, far away from this place until the union once again smites management and at a minimum the current Chief Pilot gets sacrificed. While seniority is always important in this profession, I would be waiting for the next contract when management is back from the stupid side of negotiations. This job can really suck when management and the union are butting heads.
Or better yet, go to any of the ULCCs, finish training, then apply to the legacy of your choice. You'll be there within a year and your investment advisor will thank you.

I finished my last tour at netjets on Friday. It really seems like management does things just to punish you on purpose.

Day 1: Airline to a broken airplane in SJC
Day 2: Ferry broken airplane to VNY
Day 3: Sit
Day 4: Get assigned different broken airplane
Day 5: Trip on original broken airplane that got fixed. Took two minutes after startup to see it wasn’t remotely close to fixed. Back to hotel and sit.
Day 6: Take another airplane that came out of Mx up to SJC. Delayed so we can take an owner. While sitting at the FBO, we received FIVE different travel emails over the course of an hour for go home day. Nothing on tentative. We had to look at FlightAware and there was a list a mile long of legs going every which way. Eventually, they settled on SJC-CRQ-SLC-LAS-Airline Home. Get home in the door by 8pm.
DAY 7: Everything stayed glued together through the night. On the way to the FBO we get our release. Looking good. Step out of the Lyft at the FBO and the entire brief blows up. SJC-TRM-VNY-APC-LAS-Airline home. Get into my base right at 14hrs get in the door at 11pm. All it would have taken is a 6 minute delay and I was calling company for a hotel and collect my after midnight. Payback.

Nothing is ever for sure. You can’t count on anything at all. Literally everything is subject to change and can blow up in your face at any time. It’s no way to live. And management punishing pilots and then pilots punishing management just takes years off your life. It’s not who I want to be.

6.5hrs of flying in 7 days and a thorough ass beating on day 7 as a thank you.

We hauled ass all day and got into LAS early. I got travel to put me back on one of the early flights and I was home by 8pm.

I’m very disappointed to leave netjets. It’s not how I wanted it to go. I’m just glad I landed on my feet.

You made the right choice and I don’t blame you for a second. If I were even a few years younger I’d be looking for the exit too. To be fair, I’m looking anyway.

And the M*A*S*H reference didn’t go unnoticed BTW…

Cheers and good luck.

You were a few years younger a few years ago, saying the same things you are now.

And the hiring environment wasn’t even CLOSE to what it is now, was it?

shrsailplanes, I’m so sorry this was your NJ experience. Do you mind me asking where you’re headed? I know it’ll be better, but exactly how
much better?

A new hire in their first year of probation called out sick mid trip and had to do the carpet dance for it.

It's a bit more complicated than it sounds too but it's not a good look for a company that I thought would treat me better than the regional I left

This is what I know from personal experience:

I was at skywest for four years before I came to netjets. Quality of life, while at work at skywest was light years better than netjets. For me, there is really no comparison. When I was on a trip doing my job I really enjoyed what I was doing. Great airplane (E175), great captains and crew and I knew where I was going and what I was doing.

I had to commute at skywest, which was stressful and I got paid about half of what I made at netjets. Positive space travel at netjets was a big improvement, but ultimately I was still in the back of an airliner, exhausted with crying babies and sitting next to people with big elbows and no regard for personal airspace. Being from the west coast my airline home at netjets was usually from IAD or EWR and that made for a really long ride.

It all boiled down to this: At skywest the commute between PHX-LAX was stressful, but my four days working was fulfilling and enjoyable. At netjets, my commute to and from PHX was less stressful, but I dreaded the seven days ahead of me because I had no idea what was coming and even when you got your 6pm brief it almost always blew apart during the night and continued to change during the day. The Sovereign is unreliable and broke down frequently. I trusted the ERJ with my life. The Sovereign not so much.

Quality of life while on the job matters more to me me than pay and a positive space commute. At netjets I felt like I couldn’t rely on anything. Even the airplane sent me to the emergency room with severe ear pain from a pressurization fault.

Back to your question, I’m going to F9. By year 2 FO pay is better than what I got at netjets and pay is much easier to come by. You are not reliant on all the soft pay. Captain pay is much better than netjets. Quality of life while on the road is so much better. The Airbus is a good airplane. Comfortable and capable. There is a PHX base that new hires can get right out of training. 15% direct contribution. 3 year upgrades.

I did not choose a legacy carrier, because you need at least 6 years or more at the company to avoid furlough. F9 may furlough in the future, too, but they didn’t during Covid and that carried some weight in my decision.

Sorry for the long post, but I felt I needed to qualify my answer.

I wish you luck with your career. This job can be very frustrating, but at least there are many choices for us if we feel we need a change. The chaos of the daily work at NetJets will probably never change. That is just the nature of the job. Sometimes it is a bit more stable, but that is rarely the case. Those that stay a long time learn to let the changes roll off of them with minimal frustration. We all complain, but if you can't get it out quickly and let it go, you won't be happy. Many have learned to adjust their mindset and have had a much better time, but not everyone can do that and if it bothers someone constantly, then there are many good choices available. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but you gave it a shot and then found something better for you. You will definitely be happier living in base and having a schedule. Congrats on being able to do what is best for you.

Man, I remember those types of 7 day tours well. Millions of schedule changes and movement just to get their money and duty out of you. It is soul crushing after a while. You won't regret the choice to go to F9 one bit.
