Hey there "Cruz" ;) Long time no talk. Hope all is well. Take care, buddy.

Hey man it has been awhile I was TDY to another base and flew a bunch back up in the most "beautiful" part of the country though. Gosh I realized how much I missed the NE when I landed in fog and rain.

Ya, I was. I realized that it wasn't worth it to me though. 2-leg commute to a base in the middle on nowhere with all day trips, 11 days off and spending most of those days commuting back and forth to work. Not to mention rent in two cities and no per diem because of said day trips. 24 month training contract was also unsettling. I took a job as a dispatcher making twice what an FO makes, and I'll do my CFI on the side and eventually do that full-time. I want that opportunity to build my character as a pilot as well. Call me a puss, whimp, whatever, but at 340tt I just didn't feel ready either. I'm only 23 so there's no rush, SkyWest will always be there.

I'm not knocking you all who chose to go. Everyone is different and in the end, not going was my best option. (I hope! :D)

Good luck all!

Good on you man! Sounds like you have everything planned out and that's awesome. It's better to have plans and money in the bank then broke.

Wow you sound like a sane person! Are you sure you're a pilot? :D Good call on not taking the job if it was going to make your life miserable. More people should be like you. Good luck with the dispatch gig.

The only correction I will add is that you do get per diem on day trips IF you're on duty over nine hours. Most of my day trips have had per diem. Also many of my day trips have led to me being paid according to the duty rig and not block. This is my experience in the northeast.

I stand corrected! Thanks for clarifying. :)

So, I'm sure most of you have read or seen the thread about Pinnacle declaring bankruptcy. Part of it includes Colgan dumping the Saabs and Q's (seems like Colgan wont even exist after this is all said and done). Do you think United will put jets on those routes out of Houston once flown by the Saab, or could this possibly put more truth to the Silver/Saab/Houston rumor. Just trying to spark a discussion here...

I don't think sandrich intended as such, but I'm with JayHub. Don't think gleefully about the prospect of picking up someone else's flying at a time like this. And even if you do please don't post it. You'll appreciate the courtesy in return should you be the one in the future who gets the furlough letter. Been there, personally.

P.S.
I swear that every time a carrier drops a turboprop route, the Silver cheerleaders come out asking if they can get the flying.
I'm wondering how Silver suddenly thinks they can make money on routes that other carriers have killed with similar equipment/payscales/entrenched presence with major partners on routes.

Yea the body is still warm and we're going through their pockets for loose change. Besides it's all speculation at this point.

Good luck to everyone at the Pinnacle group. It sounds like it's going to be a rough ride.
