Hmm, I'm interviewing on Thursday for a DEC position. I certainly hope not all of the captain positions are full!! There's no way I can afford to live on F/O pay!! I more than meet the mins for Captain.

They will interview you even if they don't need DEC's, bait and switch. If you're lucky they'll put you in a pool.

Interviewed in the past few weeks, so here's my two cents. Without my avatar. Because the Mods took it away. For reference, I have been a pilot for 12 years, the past 5 with a regional jet carrier and was offered a 1900 Captain position.

Not trying to be harsh, but if you want to be a 121 pilot this is the game. Some have it, some don't.

This is for the guys interviewing for 1900 FO, because as per phone conversation TODAY all DEC (captain) positions are filled for now. I had my hopes up for Capt on the Saab and those Bahamas overnights.

1) Don't stress about the written. It's basic IFR with ATP questions thrown in. Look over a Jepp approach legend if you normally use fed charts.

2) Don't stress about the sim. Yea, you will be all over the place but if you know how to do a DME hold or a P/B/D hold and can shoot an ILS, you're good.

Essentially- You're either a IFR pilot or not.

3) Do stress about quality of life. If you are single, move to base and befriend a local golf pro, bartender, church group, bicycle riding group, cosmetology school dropout turned stripper, biker gang, tennis league, or interpretive dance company. Whatever your fancy. Bloom where you are planted. Married? Kids? Move them to Middle of nowhere PA or don't see them. Your choice. it'd sure suck to come home once every two weeks to your wife and somebody else's kids.

Peace, love, and pinicillian,

Monkey.

I wouldn't call it a/c in the Saab, it's more like hot air blowing in your face all day with a chance of rain. Nothing like swimming in your uniform and peeling it off at the hotel each night, ahhhh the good ole days.

3M Saabs all have the supplemental AC unit installed in the rear of the aircraft. Very nice in the cabin but doesn't help much in the cockpit.

Word is from the CP that we will Collins FMS with full GPS / RNAV and EFB's by year end. They are already giving the INDOC tests etc. on the EFB IPads.

They've been doing that since Jan...too bad they hooked all 21 of them up to a DSL router and had us all take the test at the same time... long story short, some of them almost became frisbees...

Are the trips out of DUJ and BFD all out and backs or are there multiple day trips?

I flew the mighty Saab B+ for 4.5 years, the RV style a/c works for the 1-2 passengers sitting right below it in the back. The cockpit is a boiler with no external air cart but it's a solid plane overall, invest in ear protection.
