What makes you think the out stations don't want Silver? I don't mean to ask in a condescending manner or anything, I'm just wondering what you know that I don't.
Apart from the occasional mx delay most of the flights up here run pretty smoothly. I'm sure they're bidding at the moment against other EAS carriers like 6G and 9K but from what I've noticed the out stations don't just look at prices. They actually care about reliability, speed, and even the availability of a lav. The people out there already get freaked out by the Saab, I can't imagine their reaction when they see a Navajo or a 402 pull up to get them. Conversely, if a larger, RJ flying, regional is trying to pick those routes up they'll have to deal with mountainish flying and the occasional short runway like in MGW. |
Are the WV routes still EAS??? They were when I was at Colgan and we would fly them empty at times. Hell, we'd fly them at midnight for completion empty if there was a delay coming out of PIT. It was fun doing those routes. The overnights weren't terrible either. The small towns beat any LGA overnight! Stay away from Ryan's buffet in MGW or PKB I think it was. Don't ask, just please avoid it!!!!

MGW is always a nice test of your accuracy and speed when you land. And definitely a test on the engines when you take off on a warm day with 20+ people.
Unfortunately we don't do overnights in MGW. They tried PKB for a little bit but I guess it didn't pan out. We only ever overnight in CKB, DUJ, and SHD which are all OK. Some guys have a problem with the hotel in CKB which is understandable, it's kind of a dump. |
CKB hotel is horrible. The Hilton was nice.

Dulles is a nice operation of Silver and runs better than Florida on most days. Also, I don't think that because Florida has full flights its more profitable. Florida has larger passenger revenue but also way higher expenses. If 24 pax are stranded in MHH or EYW for the night, the hotel cost for the passengers is way more than 24 pax stranded in PKB.
Where Silver goes from here, I have no idea, but I do wish Silver good luck! |
The thing about stranding passengers in one of the Dulles base out stations is that you can still get them to Dulles via auto. I think the longest drive would be 5 to 6 hours. You don't quite have the Atlantic Ocean in your way preventing you from renting them a car or shuttling them over.

When was the most junior pilot upgraded at Dulles (latest bid results, please)?

Ok here is the current deal at Silver for those who want to know,
Currently Silver does have 4 FOs upgrading this month. Good guys and will go to DC And word around house is possible more in September... The company shows around a 140 or so current pilots, with 20 in training. Union and company are about to do a letter of agreement to increase pilot pay because everyone is jumping ship from silver. But still pending due to vote. Ontime performance is **** and is at best 50% most days if not worst. Everyday unless you are first flight of the day will be delayed 2 or more hours. Currently any pick up below your 75 hour guarantee- is working free for Silver Current D.O. is "retiring" Bases are FLL, MCO, TPA, IAD All new hires are/should be going to IAD but you never know. CEO came in my class and told all of us we would be going up and everyone got FLL. FAs are quitting by the motherload, and we are running short on them. We do not have GPS or FMS, we do Vor and ndbs. ATC loves us lol. Do not commute on to Silver flights to work. You can but your regret it due to maintenance delays and flights being canceled. Pilots lost - April we lost 4 people 1 check airman and 3 senior Captains to Xtra Airways May we lost 5 people 2 Captains and 2 FOs to Xtra Airways 1 FO to a 135 June we will lose 10 people 1 check airman and 4 captains Xtra, and 5 FOs to Allegiant Not 100% sure due to them having to do interviews but Xtra Airways looks to take in a September class another check airman and 2 more senior captains and 3 FOs. Personally I can't think of anymore fun facts at this time. But I hope this helps anyone thinking of Silver. But to tell the truth it's not all to bad here ish. You will be more embarrassed on how they treat the passengers, then yourself. My only problem is the shear lack of AC and here comes Summer... |
