Aviation is a small community. And a little bird told me that one may or may not have crashed the sim during training.

Did the GoFundMe folks get their money back?

Is this any different than SWA requiring a 737 type rating back in the '90s just to get an interview?

Very different. It's not the 1990s. Far different market and SWA pays well which made getting typed worthwhile.

I have over 2000 hrs of 208 time. Would I be required to front $7000 for training they have to provide anyway? And then for the lowest pay anywhere for a 208?

It's all good advice! However, not everyone wants to flight instruct and the price tag at schools like ATP is "$75,995".

Valid point, but a CFI means something. Paying 7k for 208 SIC training is worthless. Any decent school will offer a CFI for that much, no need for ATP, but again, I your point. I just don’t agree that this would be smart in the grand scheme of things

In the grand scheme of things, $7k is peanuts. An 18 year old gets a comm sel instrument in six months and isnt able to fly until 21 with an RATP. This route gets them employed gaining experience right from the get go instead of flight instructing. For three years they get turbine experience, upgrade and probably get on with a corporate gig or 135 flying thousands of hours multi engine turbine aircraft well prior to age 21. Oh yeah, they are actually making money unlike flight instructing. If they play their cards right they could leave with 1200tt and get a 1000 hours pic multi turbine flying 135 before they even go to a regional. Earn your degree online and by age 23 you theoretically have all the boxes checked for a major.

There are 250tt jobs that don't require paying $7,000 or having a CFI.

Idk where you got the idea where they’d make money with this Caravan gig, but they don’t... unless you consider 18k money. CFIs can easily break 25k a year. Probably 30k at a decent school that have plenty of students. Sorry, but this a “pay 7k to fly a big cessna 172.” Just a bad deal. A commercial license means you get compensated for flying and if the company is serious, they should pay for training. Sorry, but this undermines the industry as a whole.
