exactly. No one looks at what that guy that made it had already flown previously. Could have been military or even already flown at a regional but was furloughed.

There are a few of them on the list with hire dates in the 90's. It's a fun job for a year or so, but 15+ years of either 14 hour duty days or gone every night(outstation runs) 5 days a week with a 7-8 hour "half day" on Saturday? For a MAX pay under 80K base? *shudder*

From a management standpoint, to keep feeding Kool-Aid to new hires, it would be counter intuitive to tell them that the majority of people that have left to to a mainline or a major had more relevant prior experience. It has been one of my bigger gripes about AMF. There are lots of promising jobs that are very lucrative, that AMF shadows with false promises with SWA and the top 3, when there are some great charter, fractional and corporate jobs that can be had right out of AMF. Sure you can go to Frontier (no offense to friends that are there) but aside from the A320 type, it might be the worst pax flying scheduled airline when compared to the rest.

The way I looked at it, I do the AMF thing for a while. They put me into a 99 with 1500TT and 74 hours of multi when I applied. (if that tells you anything about the shambles feeder cargo is currently in) In a year and a half, I'll have over 1000 multi TPIC which qualifies me for just about any King Air charter gig out there. Also, there are overseas jobs available as I've had a clearance before. I firmly agree that going AMF-Delta/AA/SWA is a bit of a stretch, but it does open the door to a bunch of other non-121 jobs which can be fine careers in their own way. It's great to have options, and some of those other jobs you get after AMF could lead to a major. I've heard of netjets guys getting in at legacies. Bottom line is I didn't want to end up as a furloughed FO with no TPIC time. Chances are I would be right back to instructing.
For what it is (Turbine and ME time builder) it's a fine gig. It's not a long term job. Yea, aspects of it suck. Anyone that would have you believe otherwise is full of it. I'm sure glad I'm doing it though because it's making me a much better pilot.

Or, to put it another way;
Would you rather be at AMF where you would still have a job and are still building flight time or would you rather be looking for a job at McD's while you wait to get called back from furlough? (AMF has never furloughed a pilot in their almost 50 year history.)

Many were furloughed from training in 2010. No more pay check, no job to go back to and some already broke their leases with nowhere to live.

If you are in Dallas/Fort Worth and are planning to go to the Alliance Air Show this weekend, stop by. We will have a booth set up with recruiters and management from Flight, Ops and Mx. Look for the metro with the Texas tail.
