Hi, all!

Not sure if you guys are aware of our newest bonus program, so figured I'd drop the details here!
Just a few weeks ago, we started a Beech 1900 Captain Bonus Program.
Here's how it works:
If you take a 1900 Captain position with us, you will receive $10,000 (or $5,000 and your ATP/CTP course paid for by us) at the successful completion of IOE. You will get an additional $10,000 18 months after your hire date. That's a $20,000 bonus in total! On top of your first year pay of $57,000.

Also, we have a Turbine Retention Bonus for the 1900 of 20%. So at the end of year two and every year after, you will get 20% of your salary.

We have the same bonus in effect for the Metroliner (started last fall).

Feel free to ask any questions you have!

Please give more details on this new program.....

Ameriflight Signs Gateway Program Agreement with UPS Airlines - Ameriflight and UPS Airlines have entered into The UPS/Ameriflight Gateway Program to create opportunities for flight crew personnel for both airlines. The collaboration is intended to offer outlined paths under which UPS Airlines' Intern Program participants can gain Part 135 flying experience at Ameriflight and accumulate the flight experience needed to proceed to UPS Airlines, a Part 121 certificated air carrier.

Under the program, UPS will actively mentor participating Ameriflight pilots. These pilots will be encouraged to participate in UPS functions and learn from UPS Airlines' flight-qualified management team and Chief Pilots.

The Gateway Program is open to individuals who have successfully completed the UPS Airlines' Intern Program and have been identified by UPS as eligible for the UPS/Ameriflight Gateway Program. The agreement affords the opportunity for UPS interns to potentially qualify for employment with Ameriflight and UPS Airlines, respectively, upon completion of outlined experience and training requirements. Ameriflight and UPS may offer employment to eligible pilots subject to their hiring needs, hiring standards and the program requirements.

As was mentioned in the dedicated thread, this is currently only for pilots starting out in the UPS intern program. Meaning that UPS vets them before they ever even arrive at AMF. As it stands, current AMF (and direct hire AMF) pilots will not benefit from it. Our hope is that it may eventually lead to more of a flow type program to UPS.

I haven't heard any particulars of how much time or type of experience these candidates will need at AMF before UPS brings them back. I'm sure it will involve time in a type rated aircraft (metro, 1900 or E120.)

Burbank hub...

Freight Dog,

Is there a way to select the Burbank hub or SOCal as a new hire entry level Captain on the 99/1900? I'm currently flying single pilot as a 135(b) 400 series Cessna as a VFR Captain for the summer months. I am thinking of staying or moving on to turbine equipment when I hit FAR 135(c) minimums. I would really like to fly the 1900, and the bonus is really enticing. Do you need to fly the 99 first and then move into the 1900? I'm just trying to think ahead. Thanks for your time.

Hi, there!

Yes. We lock down the base before you sign your offer letter. We won't ever change your base after that unless agreed upon by us both.
Burbank or Ontario (our other CA base) is definitely an option as a new hire.
No, you do not need to fly the 99 first to fly the 1900. Based on your times, you may be qualified to jump to the 1900.
If you don't mind, what are your times? TT, ME, XC, Night, PIC, Instrument, Turbine? Feel free to comment back here or PM.

Thank you!

Do all bases participate in the UPS flow thru or just BUR?

Hi!

Yes, you can be based at any of our locations while in the UPS Gateway Program.

ZippyNH 06-19-2017 11:12 AM

As a pilot with about 7 years out of professional flying, but an ex Metro 3+Merlin IV captain (also caravan, and CESSNA 404) from Superior Aviation back in the late 90's and 2000's, what type of recent experience are you looking for? Having more than 6,000 hrs and an ATP, I know I meet the paper minimums.
Have been looking at spending some $$ National Flight sim in mht (they also do your Wiggins evaluation rides) to get current and marketable....is is a good option or do you have a set minimum number of hours in the last year to be hired?
Still have any home based captain postions open?

Hi, ZippyNH!

Glad to hear you've flown a Metro! Is that what you're interested in with us?
We would only need you to get IFR Current. So a few IFR flights in a sim would be great! The sim in MHT would be perfect.
We do not have any Home Based Captain positions open, but we still do them on a case by case basis.
I'm sure you already know, but I figured I'd put our SA227 Captain competitive time qualifications: 2,500 TT, 250 ME, 500 XC (defined as point to point), 100 night, 1,000 PIC, 100 instrument, 200 Turbine, 121 or 135 experience

I mentioned you to our lead recruiter and he'd like to chat if you're interested. Feel free to PM me with your full flight hours (TT, ME, XC (point to point), Night, PIC, Instrument, Turbine) if you are!

Cheers,

Jamie Smith

Hi, there!

You are correct. The UPS Gateway Program was not formally announced via the portal or a company memo.
However, it was announced and thoroughly discussed (via explanation and pilot questions) in both the Pilot Call and the All Employee Call.
We do not wish to leave anyone in the dark.
We'd be happy to answer any questions from our team on the program!

The major pros for our current employees:
» Additional flight crew personnel will allow us to reach our goal of a 4 on, 3 off schedule.
» The program tremendously helps the dialogue/development of a true flow through that can directly benefit all of our pilots.

Any word on a future east coast base like in VA or NC?

gatehold 06-19-2017 06:41 PM

Hi, are you hiring PIC directly into the 120? Where are the bases for the 120?

stnkbg1 06-21-2017 06:56 AM

Freightdogs, can you tell me a bit about the schedule for ONT, what the routes are like, and what aircraft are based there? I live reasonably close, and currently meet the minimums for ACP and might be interested if there are openings.

Thanks!

Turbine4Life 06-21-2017 09:02 AM

Are you hiring direct entry captains for any airframes other than the metro in SJU? If so when is your next class date? I have over 2,000 hours currently and already live in San Juan. What is your training contract length? Looking to make some moves and would like to avoid going regionals in order to stay in Puerto Rico... Thank you!

Hi!

We're looking into several new bases on both coasts.
Expansion is on the horizon, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Hi!

We do hire Direct-Entry Captains for the EMB120. We do not currently have any positions open, but we are evaluating our needs and will likely have some open in August.
The bases that fly EMB120s: BFI, CVG, SLC, SJU, PHX, and PDX.
Home-Based Captains (those that don't live near one of our bases) can also fly the EMB120.
Here are the preferred time requirements for the EMB120: 3,000 TT, 500 ME, 500 XC (defined as point to point), 100 night, 1,000 PIC, 200 instrument, 500 Turbine, 121 or 135 experience

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you have!

Hi, there!

Definitely!
The schedule for our ONT routes is typically Monday through Friday, morning to evening.
Typically, you'll have three legs; the legs for ONT range from one to eight depending on the route.
Aircraft out of ONT: Beech 99, Beech 1900, and SA227.
At the moment, we don't have any ACP openings, but will likely open them again later this summer.
We also have a BUR base close by!

Feel free to ask any other questions you have!

Hi, Turbine4Life!

We do not currently have any SJU Captain openings on our site, however we are still taking applications and would be happy to consider you.
We fly BE99s, BE1900s, and SA227s out of SJU. Based off of your TT, you would likely qualify for the BE1900 and we'd be happy to see an application from you.
Here are the preferred mins for that aircraft: 1,800 TT, 250 ME, 500 XC (defined as point to point), 100 night, 1,000 PIC, 100 instrument, 100 Turbine, 121 or 135 experience

Please, let me know if you have any other questions! We'd love to work something out that will keep you in Puerto Rico!

Hi, Omnipotent!

Aside from our current Flow Through agreements with Frontier, Allegiant, and Omni Air (and of course our Gateway Program with UPS), other Flow Throughs are definitely in the works. Nothing set in stone yet, but we are certainly working to provide these defined career paths for our current and future pilots. They are awesome agreements!

Thanks for responding. With all due respect, except for UPS, the other airlines you have flow throughs with are true bottom feeders. When are you going to sign agreements with quality airlines that people actually want to work for?

How many AMF pilots have flowed to Frontier, Allegiant and Omni?

Please please please stop calling them flow through agreements, they do not meet the industry definition of flow. I would hate to see new hires get the wrong impression.

What do you call them? And what's the "industry" definition of flow?

A flow is where the company takes a mandatory number of people by seniority, from another company. No interview, no other prerequisite to meet other than when your seniority number comes up, you are in the next indoc. AMF has nothing like that. They are preferential hiring agreements, that's it.

I'm slightly confused by the 1 to 8 part there. Are you saying depending on route you'd fly between 1 and 8 legs a day, with an average of 3?

Burbank is close to ONT, but thanks to SoCal traffic it's a significantly longer drive, making ONT the preferred choice for sure! Thanks a lot for being here and answering everyone's questions. I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates it.

Also curious about the pay for new ACP hires and the opportunities for advancement/raises with time.

It doesn't directly affect the current pilots as it is a UPS program for their interns to hire on here to build time. There is currently no way for a current AMF pilot to move into the program. But the hope (and what AMF is pushing for) is that it will lead to a program for pilots who come direct to AMF to move through to UPS at some point in the future.

Thanks, but it was a rhetorical question. Since the employee/pilot calls are not mandatory and I'm guessing a fraction of the total pilot group actually participates in the calls, management still chose not to release a memo that would inform everyone. Its really not surprising based on the revolving door of management positions in Dallas over the last couple years and the promotion of people into those positions by default rather than by their qualifications. The UPS program is a step in the right direction, but the benefits are not going to be seen for quite some time. 1500 hours in type rated equipment and 30 months flying the line is obviously a minimum of 2.5 years away. My guess is that UPS won't look at "flow through" AMF captains until they are sure their interns can make it through UPS training after flying for AMF. Again, several years away. A schedule of 4 on 3 off is a cute goal to have, but last time AMF was fat on pilots, they temporarily furloughed the new hires instead of incorporating them into the schedule to give relief to the pilot group. They would need dozens more pilots to make that schedule work. Hopefully AMF can keep the doors open long enough to see the results of the program.

How would that benefit UPS and the UPS pilots? Other than flying mostly at night, what carryover would an AMF pilot bring to UPS as an asset?

How come some AMF pilots were the polo shirts and some are in full airline pilot regalia, complete with tie?

Pilot choice. I wear the polo just because it is more comfortable (I hate ties.)

A first hand understanding of UPS operations?

I don't know. What asset does any pilot bring to a different company? Their flying skills? Their work ethic?

Seems to me that too much emphasis seems to be made of jet time. In my experience, the only thing more difficult about flying a jet than a turboprop is that you need to plan your arrival speed adjustments more carefully because you can't slow down as quickly. Unless you want to use the spoilers.

AMF pilots don't have a first hand knowledge of UPS. They have a first hand knowledge of a part of the feeder structure. AMF pilots who fly UPS runs aren't held to UPS SOPs or policies. You carry brown boxes, that's it.

The hilarious aspect of somebody with zero jet time commenting on how to fly a jet isn't lost on me, however it isn't so much about it being harder, it's just different. Single pilot IFR in a turboprop twin is harder than everything, however its the least desired industry position by almost every airline that can hire able bodied jet pilots. UPS is an airline, AMF is nothing like an airline. AMF makes good single engine turboprop pilots, problem is, there are thousands of well qualified, true multi crew, jet pilots looking to work at UPS, with a large percentage of those being pilots with heavy jet international time. Once that crop of pilots dries up, you bet that UPS will be hiring turboprop guys, it all trickles down.

I would be shocked to see an actual flow to any company. So far, every agreement between AMF and another company has been riddled with prerequisites and ambiguous wording to make it very hard to understand and even harder to take advantage of.
